SpaceExplorer Inventor funtionality issue

Post by TheBugera »

I have a vista x64 computer. When I use the spaceexplorer with Autodesk Inventor 2012 selected, the response is very little and it lags to the point of not being usable. Most of the time it does not work at all. However, when I highlight another application and inventor is visible in the background, it works just fine. I already tried installing an older version of the driver and disabling antivirus, but those did not work. Please help!

SpaceExplorer Inventor functionality

Post by Barbara »

Hello -

I apologize that this has not been answered.

Inventor has support for 3D devices inside the application and the 3DxInventor add-in provides button mapping.Support for Inventor 2012 began with Release 3.13. Versions older than that would not have support for Inventor 2012.

A clean install will take care of registry entries or profile issues that may be causing the problem.

Hi TheBugera,

this is a very weird one ... :( . We have reports like yours, but we never saw the problem live or could reproduce it in our lab. One user reported that he could solve the issue by deleting the complete user profile and create a new one.

Did you report this to Autodesk? The navigation with the 3D mouse is implemented natively into Inventor by Autodesk directly.

I have a similar issue with a SpaceNavigator and Inventor 2012 Ultimate. Almost completely no motion, untill I click on Google Chrome, then I can see the Inventor model fly around silky smooth. Click back to focus on Inventor, and nothing moves.

I did look up I/O in task manager, there seem to be quite a few things consuming read & write I/O when I move the SpaceNavigator, yes one of the biggest is Google Chrome web browser.

I tried fully turning off the AVG (free basic) antivirus and I added the exception to windows firewall for the 3DX server as I saw in another forum.

I have the latest driver downloaded from 3D connexion.

System details:

Freshly installed 64b Windows 7 (home premium) on a new Crucial 128GB SSD. Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe MB, 4 GB Ram, AMD 9500 Quad Core. Video is an Nvidia 8800 GTS.

(This is my home based home made CAD station to work from home as apposed to my lenovo system and SpacePilot Pro in the office. I've been Running 3dX devices since spaceballs had serial connections. :) )

I can try my SpacePilot Pro tonight just to see what happens, but I believe that is a different driver set.

Do you Guys have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

UPDATE to the above post of mine;

I have tried 3DXSoftwares; 3.15.3, 3.14.2, and Beta V10.-0-11_r1165
All Have no Change.

Problem; I have NO motion in Inventor 2012, unless I click into another window, like CHROME or Task Manager. If I do so, I can see the Inventor model moves flawlessly, fluidly. If I click back into Inventor, it does NOT move, just slightly, once every 10 seconds.

Help Please??!?? I have work I need to finish! After 7 years of working alongside a 3DConnexion device, I cannot work without it!!!!

UPDATE; to the above

I have tried using a Space Navigator and a Space Explorer USB. Both work fine in the demos, but have the same no-movement issue in Inventor 2012 Ultimate.

I also tried AVG fully off last night, no change.

Thanks for looking at my problem!

Sorry Uta is currently out of Office for the Holidays othewise she would have replied to this post.

With Inventor 2012 they added support natively in the application including there own Button mapping similar to Autocad's
Have you played with the Navbar?
If you don’t see this try typing Navbar in the Search field.

Click the arrow just below the cap
It will bring up options for:
Object Mode
Walk Mode
Fly mode
2D mode
Which mode are you using?
THere are other functions in the toolbar as well you will have to check and see what each one does.

What happens when you have Google Chrome closed?
Do you have full functionality?
I dont use Google Chrome so i cant see if there is something in this app that is interfering with Inventor to cause this issue.

Looks like this is an old post but I hope it will still be seen...

I have been having a very frustrating issue with my SpaceNavigator when using it with Inventer and even 2D autocad. Both are 2013 versions. This is a different issue than discussed above, but I thought I would start somewhere. My mouse does work normal some of the time (I dont have the issue of it not moving), but I am constantly fighting it from randomly spinning off into the abyss... I have no clue why it does this and its hard to explain. It's extremely frustrating when I'm trying to zoom in on a delicate part of my drawing, and then it goes bazerk and i have to stop the spinning and re-adjust my view. I tried updating my driver and checked for viruses. I've been having this problem for over a year now. I'm about to go outside and play baseball with the little guy!

Any help is welcome.

Here is a little video that shows what happens:
