Hello all,
My newly purchased spacemouse pro is not recognized on the system listed in the title. In the readme for the 3dxInventor add-in it states:
"- 3Dconnexion 3D mice
SpacePilot, SpaceExplorer, SpaceTraveler, SpaceNavigator (all editions).
- Autodesk Inventor
Version R9 and above."
How do I go about updating the add-in? I just had the newest driver installed for the system and it did not seem to do anything.
Thanks,
D

Hello ddmx -
Before working with Inventor and the Inventor add-in, the SpaceMouse Pro needs to be recognized by your PC. The USB port the SpaceMouse PRO is plugged into can be important - 3d devices are more sensitive to a slight reduction in power than a standard mouse or other USB device.
The SpaceMouse Pro should be connected to a rear USB port on the PC rather than to a hub, adapter or extension. When switching to a different USB port you will need to manually start the driver. [Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Driver, Start Driver]
When Windows recognizes the device, it adds an HID component with a message 'Windows is installing the software for your new hardware'. Once it is recognized it will be listed in Device Manager in the HID category as shown here.
If you are using a firewall or security application that blocks the 3Dconnexion software, you will need to create an exception to allow the 3Dconnexion executable - 3dxsrv.exe [C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxWare\3dxsrv.exe ]
After the SpaceMouse Pro is recognized by Windows, check that it is working outside your applications with the installed demos [Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Demo- Jet Demo]
Once you have the SpaceMouse Pro working in the demos it will work in Inventor. The 3Dconnexion add-in for Inventor provides button mapping only - navigation for 3d devices in Inventor is part of the application.
As long as Inventor is closed when the 3Dconnexion software is installed , the add-in is installed automatically so it is likely that you already have the add-in installed. When you open Inventor with the 3DxInventor add-in installed, a 3DMouseNews window opens showing the add-in options available in Inventor when you press the Menu button on the SpaceMouse Pro.
If you do not see the 3DMouseNews window open inside Inventor, close Inventor and install the add-in using the Repair function in Programs and Features with Inventor closed.[Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features -3Dconnexion - Change|Modify - Repair]

Re: Spacemouse Pro, WinXP x86, and Inventor 2010
All of those points you mentioned are great things to check indeed. I forgot to mention however that we already have a Space Explorer in use on this workstation. It works as it should. With updated drivers and knowing that a 3d connexion device already works on the system it confused me as to why the spacemouse pro did not function, even with the space explorer disconnected. Any thoughts there?
Thanks,
D

Dear ddmx,
Of the suggestions that Barb sent you, which ones have you followed? What's your set up like? It sounds like you had both devices plugged in. What procedures have you followed? Have you rebooted? What release version do you find in the About item under the Help Menu in the 3Dconnexion Control Panel?
Sincerely,
Bryan

The more things change, the more they remain the same. ; ^ )
Re: Spacemouse Pro, WinXP x86, and Inventor 2010
If you are running 3DxWare 6 (shipping driver), you probably have to delete your saved user Inventor scg file. The file lacks a SpaceMouse Pro section because the SMPro didn't exist with the older release. A new one will be made with the SpaceMouse Pro section added. If there is anything important in your current saved file, you can merge these manually. ...And of course download the 3DxWare version that supports the SpaceMouse Pro.
