Can SpaceNavigator be a good "scroll ring"?

I want to check if SpaceNavigator can be a good "scroll ring". So far in my search for scroll rings I found following options:

1. Kensington Expert Mouse 7, people record the scroll ring is too loud or clumsy, so not sure about it, even if the form looks quite right.
2. Kensington Orbit with scroll ring, very cheap, looks also nice, users reporting positive experience about its scroll ring, however the ring is not fully horizontal.
3. Griffin Powermate, discovered it just before SpaceNavigator
4. SpaceNavigator which looks most promising for my "scroll ring" search.

Now my question, how good is SpaceNavigators "rotation" feel? Especially if you want to use it for changing values, e.g. for music mixing, value going up or down. So far I was thinking of a rotation action as an ideal solution, but with SpaceNavigators other degrees, one could use also those, depending on which gives the best experience. I would appreciate any useful hints. Thanks in advance.
