SpaceMouse Plus XT USB in IronCad

Post by bjorn.syse »

Hi!

I have this annoying problem: When in Ironcad and rotating my view with the spacemouse, my CAD-model suddenly jumps back and displays in a different angle, back and forth as if it would not quite listen to my SpaceMouse rotate commands or something. Native application rotating (using middle mouse button) works just fine.

I have the latest 3dware 3.0.9 installed. Could this be helped with a firmware upgrade you reckon?

Cheers,

Hi bjorn.syse,
From what you describe, it appears that you have a bug in IronCAD itself. To confirm, see if you can reproduce it using one of the "demos" shipped with our software (Start menu, Programs, 3Dconnexion, 3Dconnexion 3DxWare, Demos).
If the problem is in the application, we advise our customers to report the problem to the application editor Customer Service. We also appreciate if you could post here any information you receive from them regarding this issue.

Hi Nuno,

Yes, at first I thought this had to do with Ironcad. Since Ironcad 9 don't support my ATI graphics card I have to run it in "software rendering mode", and I for long though this was the sole problem. But then when native application rotating seemed to work, I then though the spacemouse was the problem. Perhaps it still is Ironcad though...

These are two screenshots to further illustrate the issue. The wireframe piece is the actual position of the item in space, and the shaded one is the one that suddenly just pops up somewhat beside.

I can't get in contact with their support or post at their forum since I don't have the right license (student). But I guess they would be interested in fixing this problem.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to use the space navigator with IronCAD 13, and if so how? Where are the drivers located?

Thanks,

Mark

Dear spandaglis,

I only find a listing for
IronCAD IronCad European Sales 10.0 Windows
I don't know if they have made use of our devices in IronCAD 13. You would want to contact your IronCAD support to determine the behaviors you might expect in their software and their system requirements. Normally, there is not a special application plug-in required for an application to make use of our devices. All, our devices require, is to have its normal system driver installed. The applications decide if they want to make use of our devices or not, or how they make use of them. The normal system driver for our devices may easily be downloaded from our website, http://www.3dconnexion.com. You may find the driver download page under the Service Menu there. Our latest release version is 3DxSoftware 3.16.1. Simply download to your desktop. Close your applications. Execute the download to have it go through an Installshield Wizard. Select a 'complete' install and to have the drivers start automatically. After rebooting you should be all set. You may test with our Jet Demo. (Start, All Program, 3Dconnexion, Demos, Jet Demo)

Sincerely,
Bryan

I downloaded a trial version of IronCAD 2013 and it did seem that the application made use of the input from our device. I was able to rotate a block.
