Solidworks 2012 SpaceExplorer motion not working

Post by mechwerks »

Hello,

Yesterday I installed a SpaceExplorer to my SW2012 installation using the latest 3dconnexion software/drivers available (04Oct2012). Both motion and buttons were working at that time. I confirmed that the addin was checked in SW. Today I started up SW and motion is not working (buttons are working). I have checked the following with no success:

1. addin is checked and running in SW (tried starting it manually)
2. reset SpaceExplorer using buttons 1 & 2
3. re-installed 3dconnexion software
4. Set SW to run as admin
5. ran the 3dx trainer software and the Space Explorer motion works there but not in SW.

Help in getting this running would be appreciated. This is running in Win 7 64bit.

Thanks,

Hello mechwerks -

Windows7 requires the 3Dconnexion executable [3dxsrv.exe] to have the same level of permissions as SolidWorks. It is best to run both with standard permissions.

When SolidWorks is run with elevated permissions, the same is required for 3dxsrv.exe. Can you return SolidWorks to the standard level of permissions ?

Since it is working outside of SolidWorks , the add-in and the matching permissions should be all that's needed.

If not, a clean install of the 3Dconnexion software would resolve problems caused by data a corruption in a registry or profile.

Thanks Barbara,

I have found that the problem is related to logging off as a user on the computer and logging back in. I also saw another post made about this and if I manually stop the driver, close the 3dxsrv.exe process and restart the driver, this seems to work. Otherwise, shutting down the computer and restarting also works.
