Driver failure when switching CATIA licenses.

Post by rfetterman »

Hello,

I am an IS Tech at an engineering firm and our designers are having issues with the latest Win 7 64bit (3.16.1) 3DConnexion drivers for the Space Navigator. When they switch between licenses in CATIA, it seems to nuke the driver and the device is no longer recognized. I attempted to search for this issue, but I was unable to find a similar problem. Sometimes a simple restart fixes it, but other times the driver needs to be reinstalled as well. If anyone has seen this before and has a suggestion, by all means I would welcome it. I am not very versed in either CATIA or with the 3Dconnexion devices.

Thanks,
Randy

Hello Randy -

When switching Catia licenses, is a user logging off ? If so, the driver needs to be restarted for the new login.
[Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Driver, Start Driver]

If a user logs off with the driver running, with the next login you would see what you describe - the device no longer available in Catia. The process 3dxsrv.exe would be running but no longer able to communicate with the device. 3dxsrv.exe would need to be stopped before the driver could be re-started.

To keep that from happening, the driver can be stopped before a user logs off.

The 'Stop Driver' shortcut can be used or right-click on the 3Dconnexion icon in the System Tray and choose 'Exit' to stop the driver.

If the Catia licenses are switched without the user logging off , the same step of stopping the driver then restarting it for the new Catia session would work to prevent the device from losing connection when the license is switched.
