I just got a SpaceNavigator for Notebook and installed the latest driver from your website. After I installed the driver I noticed that I have to now click through msvcr80.dll errors when opening NX4. Once opened the program seems to work and the SpaceNavigator seems to work however the buttons do not seem to be as programmable as they should be. Only a few preset options work and the function that allows you to develop a subroutine does not seem to work. I uninstalled the SpaceNavigator driver and the error went away. Is there a driver that does not introduce these errors? Also, how can I get the buttons to work as they should?

MSCVP80.DLL is a shared Windows file that various software uses and expects to be available in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. If it is damaged or missing you will see the error stating the system was not able to locate MSCVP80.DLL . This is not an error specific to 3Dconnexion software - it is a Windows issue - but we can provide some general guidance in resolving it.
To access the folder for MSCVP80.DLL, you need to allow hidden system folders to be viewed. Open My Computer, click Tools-Folder Options-View tab. Scroll down to Hidden files and folders and move the highlight from 'Do not show...' ' to 'Show hidden files and folders.' Save the changes and agree to the warning.
If this a network PC , you may not have access to view or write to system folders - an IT tech would need to resolve this type of error.
To locate MSCVP80.DLL browse to C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT%string of numbers and letters%. There may be several folders with similar names - the correct one will have only 3 . dll files - msvcm80.dll, msvcp80.dll, and msvcr80.dll. Using copy and paste, copy the files to C:\Windows\System32 and agree to over-write the existing files. You can preserve the original files [ if they exist] by renaming with a -old at the end of the filename.Copy the 3 dlls to the System32 folder, then reboot. When Windows restarts, it should be able to find MSCVP80.DLL
If you still see the error, it is possible your system variables have changed so that Windows is not looking in the correct folder. Open System Properties -> advanced -> environment variables and check system variable PATH to see that it points to C:\Windows\System32.
If this does not resolve the problem you can re-install the Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft :http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
For system file errors that persist beyond re-installing Visual C++ , re-installing Windows and/or contacting Microsoft's tecnical support is recommended.
Button mapping for your 3Dconnexion device needs to be done from the Customize Buttons editor within NX rather than from the 3Dconnexion Control Panel. For any application that has an internal button mapping editor, the internal editor has priority. Buttons mapped from the 3Dconnexion Control Panel return to defaults since they are overwritten by the internal editor.
If you map your buttons instead from the 3DxNX 'Customize Buttons', the mappings will be saved to your profile.
In NX you can access the 'Customize Buttons' from the pop-up menu by pressing the "Menu" on SpacePilotPRO, "Panel" on the SpacePilot and paceExplorer and the left button on the SpaceNavigator.

Thank you very much for your response. I tried your recommendations of copying and pasted the MSVCR80.dll files into the System32 folder and changing the environment variables to look at that folder. This did not seem to help. So I installed the Visual C++ from the link you provided and this did not seem to work either. After installing the Visual C++ 2005 redistributable I realized that I already have 2005, 2008, and 2010 of different variations of (x64) and (x86). Do all of these need to be deleted before installing the 2005 version? Also, it seemed weird to me that some of the previous versions were showing an installation date of 3 days ago when I havent downloaded any of it to my knowledge. This computer is not shared so I am the only user. This is a brand new laptop that has been working great so far minus this issue so I dont feel comfortable reinstalling windows when this problem goes away when I uninstall the 3DX driver. That is what led me thinking it was a driver issue.
Also, the 'Customize Button' within NX is greyed out so I followed your instructions to edit the ugii_env.dat file. This did not seem to work. I wasnt sure where to paste the line of text that was said to add so I added it to the very end and had to play with the permissions to be able to save that file. Is there a special place to put that line of text? Also should anything change with that for NX4?

No you should use the current Visual C++ the link i provided was to the general location to get the file.
As i stated earlier in the instructions the error is a Windows file and it is shared by multiple programs.

We've published a update to our Release 3.16 to address an issue that affects some of our customers that use what seems to be very aggressive anti-virus software that would block our driver from loading properly ("cannot load DLL") problem.
Try the new driver and see if this fixes the issue.

I have tried everything mentioned above. I have moved files around and I have loaded and unloaded drivers until they could not be removed anymore. When that happend I finally reloaded Windows and had everything taken back to the original state when I bought this computer. The error message still comes up when starting NX and everything seems to be pointing to an issue with my antivirus since it autopopulates a location in my system variables even when I wipe it clean. Is there any way a driver can be compatible with Trend Micro Antivirus?

Also, I noticed that when this driver is installed I am not able to exit sketch mode without crashing the system. I have currently uninstalled this driver and parked my spacenavigator rendering the $100 purchase to increase mobile productivity wasteful. Since it has been over a month since I bought this unit I cannot return it to the distrubutor, is there anything the manufacturer can do?

If you install the latest version of 3DxSoftware, you can go to a "custom" installation and unselect the "3Dconnexion Plug-in for Siemesn NX". After the installation is complete, you should be able to start NX and use your SpaceNavigator.
Once we have fixed the issue, you can re-install 3DxSoftware and restore the full use of 3D mouse buttons in NX (which is less of an issue with a 2-button device).
