Maya driver always overwrites usersetup.mel

I wish the 3DConnexion driver for Maya would not erase and rewrite my usersetup.mel file whenever I install the driver. Other programs need to use that file too. For example - Maya bonus tools. If you have bonus tools installed, and then later install the 3DConnexion driver, bonus tools will no longer work because the 3DConnexion install process will wipe clean the entire usersetup.mel file and replace it with just:

// The usersetup script is executed, when loading Maya
MagellanStartup;

This is very inconvenient - especially if I forget to backup my usersetup.mel beforehand.

Can you please change the install to APPEND TO usersetup.mel instead of REPLACE?

Yes, we will need look into this again. IIRC, there is a problem determining the correct location of the usersetup.mel but there does not appear to be necessary to overwrite.

I will confirm with the lead developer for our Maya plug-in.

This explains a lot of the unpredictable behavior surrounding my maya and 3dconnexion in ages. I second that. I wish I had read this earlier today to backup my usersetup.mel before trying to workaround another driver issue

Thanks for the quick reply. I would like to mention that I have offerred several times to beta test the Maya drivers before their release but I have not got a response. I understand resources may be limited, but I really would appreciate if 3DConnexion would release a Maya driver that worked properly (this has never been accomplished as long as I've been using Maya since release 8.5). If you guys opened a private testing forum for pre-release drivers, maybe it would help.

I really really would like a functioning Maya driver that I can depend on from release to release. I dont' think that's too much to ask.

I'm sorry for the the lack of a response.

We have discussed this issue internally before. We have our "Labs" page precisely to issue software updates as "beta" before committing to an official release but we do not always have the liberty to issue software publicly ahead of official announcements.

Thanks for you offer to test the software. This is very much appreciated and we will push to have it happen more often.
