Autcad 2013 only works on new drawings

Post by 3Disconnect »

Hello everyone, first post here. I just got a spacemouse pro a week ago and it is pretty awesome. I use it for Autocad Civil 3D 2013 and Google Earth mostly. I have a strange problem with Civil3D I was hoping someone could help me with. As far as I can figure out, the spacemouse doesn't seem to want to work on any drawing that was created with our current template. I have installed the autocad hotfix per the install instructions. I can open a new drawing based on the acad.dwt and it works. If I open the acad.dwt and insert all our templates' settings and styles, it also works. So I'm left with the spacemouse only working on new drawings and not on any of our old drawings. I was hoping that I could find a quick setting or variable change that would allow the spacemouse to work with our old drawings but I'm out of ideas. Would anyone else have any ideas?

I donot have a solution for your question, but i would recommend posting this on Autocads Forum.
As they have added support natively, since 2011.
When you open an Old file does the Navbar open detecting the 3D device?
If not try enabling the Navbar by typing Navbar in the Search field.

Wow I think that did it, thank you! I apologize if this is documented all over the place and i just didn't catch it. Apparently you have to have either the navcube or navbar on for the spacemouse to work. I though for sure i had it working with the navcube off so i didn't think about trying to turn it on. Is there anyway around this? Not that its 3Dconnexion's fault, but still kind of a bummer. I never use the Navbar/cube, they just get in the way, especially when you have to do a lot of big selection windows. At least the navbar is smaller than the cube.

Either way, Thanks again Fred, i appreciate he help :)

Im glad I was able to help.
I think it has to be enabled otherwise it disables the device fromn being recognized.
Its part of how they added the support into the application.
Does it allow you to doc it with the other Toolbars?

I dont think so. It looks like it only gives you the option for which corner you want to have it docked in. But with the navcube off the navbar slides all the way into the corner instead of halfway down the screen, so not too bad. Hopefully autodesk will allow the device to be reconized without the navbar in the future, but they really like to force these new UI changes on the users. I usually turn off the ribbons, navcube, and subscription center thing right away. But having the navcube on to be able to use the spacemouse is a compromise I can deal with :D I really like my spacemouse pro so far, thanks for making such an awesome piece of hardware!
