3Dconnexion Windows 8 drivers and Maya 2012

Post by pjdv »

Hi,

I'm using a SpaceNavigator and wanted to use Maya 2012 on Windows 8! However, the latest drivers don't seem to recognize Maya 2012! Can anybody give directions on how to still use it on Windows 8 or using the latest drivers?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Kind Regards!

Also, when I say Windows 8, I mean, "Windows 8 Pro" (64-bit)

Please look at the attachment for details on the driver that I'm using!

Kind Regards!

Hello Pieter,

3DxSoftware 3.16.3 supports Maya 2012 on Windows 8. It seems that the plug-in is not being loaded. The 3Dconnexion plug-in in Maya depends on the command MagellanStartup being executed by the usersetup.mel. When another script is installed it can overwrite the 3Dconnexion usersetup.mel.

To confirm that this is the problem you are seeing, type "MagellanStartup" [without the quotes] at the Maya command line. This should enable navigation. If it does not, it will generate an error that will let us know what the problem is.

If your 3Dconnexion device starts when you type "MagellanStartup" at the command prompt but is not auto-starting, that would indicate that another instance of usersetup.mel is being used. To have the device auto-start you will need to add the magellanstartup; line to the end of the active usersetup.mel

There seem to be a problem with the installation. Please try a full clean up and re-install of the 3DxSoftware as described here. Make sure that Maya is not running when you install the 3DxSoftware.

Let me know if this helps.

Just one more thing, I couldn't see the Rotation Center point as seen in the previous reply-screenshot! Do you have any ideas why this is?

Open the Popup menu by clicking on the left button of your device.
Next go to the Rotation Center choose always show or show on Motion.

If you remapped your left button to something different you will have to open the 3Dxware panel buton mappings locate Popup menu reassign to the left button.
Perform the following steps
Open the Popup menu by clicking on the left button of your device.
Next go to the Rotation Center choose always show or show on Motion.

Hi Fred,

I've tried that before and it didn't work either! That is, I have the left button assigned to the Popup Menu, and even on setting the Rotation Center to Always Show doesn't change anything!
