Spacenavigator always panning UP in Google Earth

Post by Mobius »

Greets all. This started happening a couple of weeks ago, with an old set of drivers and an old install of Google Earth. Since that time I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of G-Earth and the latest driver set for the Spacenavigator. I have done this several times. With restarts.

I have even gone so far as to install older version of both - nothing resolves this.

All other apps work fine, and the viewer and trainer in the 3D Home app work fine as well.

As soon as GE starts, the globe spins up - (But it stops at the horizon with GE 7.1.1.1580) - and if I enable "visualisation" then two upwards pointing arrows are always present, showing the input from the SN is always in "pan up".

If I push down, I can "over power" the UP input to pan down, but it skips while I do this. The pan is actually faster than if I pan up fully using the controller.

Calibrating with the new software does not seem to do anything when I click the calibrate button - no flashing on the device at all. (The new drivers appear to be made for idiots - where did all my customisation options go??)

I'm pretty PC savvy, and used to offer PC tech support professionally, so I am not some muppet who has no idea about their machine, drivers, etc.

I'm also pretty upset, because I got SN specifically for Google Earth, and now I just have an expensive lump of junk on my desk.

What can I do to resolve this issue?

Dear Mobius,

What operating system do you have?

Which version of our drivers do you have installed?

Which version of Google Earth do you have installed?

Do you get this same behavior in our Jet Demo?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Google Earth provides native support.
We have a clean install you can try but this wont fix the issue if its a setting in Google Earth.
http://www.3dconnexion.com/faq/28

or you can try the below steps
Close all applications
Open the 3dcontrol panel
click on options
click on delete saved configurations
Remove google earth-(your name)
Next go back to options and click restore all defaults.

Now launch Google Earth
Click on Options
Restore defaults
Click on Navigation
go to non mouse controller
check the box Enable controller
Click apply push ok.

Thank you for this, Fred.

I guessed it would be a waste of time to follow your instructions, because I have done (very many) similar things many times in the last week - but for the sake of pedantism and thoroughness, I followed all of your instructions: this does not fix it.

There is no "setting" in Google Earth except "enable" as you well know.

Bryan, I am on Windows 7, 64 Bit, with 8GB RAM.
Drivers: latest - of course.
GE version: 7.1.1.1580
SN drivers: 6.16.1 (Release version 3.16.3)
(Did I not say "I am not a muppet" and "latest version" in my first post? Yes, I did. :P)

The Jet demo, and all other apps work perfectly. As I stated, this affects Google Earth ONLY. And it is the ONLY app I want my SN for.

I predict this is what's going to happen now: I am going to get the message that "It's Google's Problem, go talk to them" - handily sidestepping the issue entirely, and consigning me to a fate worse than death, trying to get support from Google, and they are going to simply tell me it's my controller, and I will continue to have over $200 worth of unusable but very attractive junk on my desk. :(

This is extremely depressing. Look, if I can't fix something on my own PC then there is something very seriously wrong. I fix people's problems like this, professionally!

I solved the issue - almost by mistake.

It was the throttle on my Joystick which Google Earth interprets massively stupidly. I will detail what I found in another topic.
