SpaceNavigator Crashes Sketchup Pro 2013

Post by kleach »

On SketchUp Pro 2013 version 13.0.4812
3DxWare version 3.17.6 (Driver Version 6.17.6) Firmware 4.35

I get everything working fine. Begin working and a few min in it will bugsplat.
I have removed the plugin and have been working fine for a week, no crashes.
I added it back in and got it working .. only to crash again in a few min.

Any suggestions? I had to manually move the plugin files to the proper sketchup folder.

It is great when it works...

Hello Ken -

The SketchUp 2013/Plugins folder needs to contain both the folder 3DxSketchUp and the file 3DxSketchUp.rb
If you copied only the 3DxSketchUp folder, you will need to copy the 3DxSketchUp.rb from it to the SketchUp 2013/Plugins folder.

One other possible issue is a permissions mis-match. For Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 Microsoft requires a plugin to have the same level of permissions as the application. Check the Properties | Compatibility tab for SketchUp.exe - if 'Run as administrator' is checked , change to non-elevated permissions by un-checking it.

Is this your first version of the 3Dconnexion software ? Data corruption in a registry key is possible - but that is not likely in a new install. If there have been previous versions you can use the clean install steps to remove older 3Dconnexion registry keys and custom profiles.

It works for a little so the plugin files/folder are where they should be.
I check the permission issue you raised and run as admin was not checked.
I have uninstalled the app and rebooted and re-installed both sketchup and your software..

what is next?
is there a way to get logging turned on ? to see what is causing the crash?

Hello Ken -

You can turn on 3Dconnexion logging with 3Dconnexion Properties - Tools- Write Log File which saves to C:\Users\loginname\AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3Dxware.log.

The 3Dconnexion log will not tell us what is going on inside SketchUp. If their bugsplat suggestions do not correct the problem , please contact our technical support.

Yes, please. After you installed an application that needs an addin, like Sketchup you have to reinstall the driver, so that the addin is installed for the new application, too.
