I just got a Space Navigator to use with Modo and Softimage. In the case of Modo, I can only use it to re-position the camera but not to rotate or move objects.
Is Modo not fully supported? Before buying it I checked the supported products in the 3DConnexion site and Modo is listed, so I am wondering if I am missing something.
Thanks,
Juan Carlos

Re: Limited functionality with Modo
Hello Juan Carlos -
The options that control the Space Navigator in Modo are part of the Modo software. The list of supported applications includes both the applications where 3Dconnexion software provides the 3D support [as in Softimage] and applications where the 3D device support has been written inside the application code [as in Modo].
Modo has two modes: Camera Walkthrough- where the Space Navigator moves the camera through the scene, and Object Orbit - where the object orbits around a center point marked with the blue dot. The default button mapping for Modo toggles between modes with the left Space Navigator button or the ALT key can be held down to switch to the opposite mode.
Since 3D navigation is provided by Luxology software, their technical support and forums are the correct resource for questions about using 3Dconnexion devices in Modo. We are happy to help where we can but they have much more specific information about working with our devices inside their software.

Re: Limited functionality with Modo
Luxology has released Modo 601 with full 3D Mouse support. In Modo 601 SP1 look for the tab under System Preferences named '3DMouse' to enable navigation.
System Preference: - Input > 3D Mouse. Preferences can be set for minimum Translation threshold, Rotation threshold, Translation Speed, Rotation Speed and locking of individual axes for Translation and Rotation (useful for moving in a plane or turning off banking).
There is also an option 'Use Main Axis Only' for applying transforms to the axis with the most movement. This setting performs the same function as the 'Dominant' setting in the 3Dconnexion software - it restricts movement to the dominant axis direction.

Re: Limited functionality with Modo
Thanks both, this is very helpful. Before I go to the Luxology site, one more question.
Fred, I did find the preferences but I still cannot figure out how to move/rotate objects. Is your comment about the camera only, or can I interact with items?

Re: Limited functionality with Modo
Hi Juan Carlos -
What happens if you hold down the ALT key while turning the Space Navigator cap ? It should switch to Object Orbit mode.

Re: Limited functionality with Modo
Barbara,
It does switch, but it's the camera that's moving, not the object.

Check in the settings in Modo you may have accidently locked your X, Y axis.
