I just got a Space Navigator to use with Modo and Softimage. In the case of Softimage 2013, I can get my object to rotate in Y only, but not in Xor Z. I made sure that the "Dominant Only" box in the Control Panel is un-checked, and it is un-checked.
Why does the Navigator only rotate objects in Y? When it is in camera mode, it uses all three axis.
Thanks,
Juan Carlos

Hi Juan,
I assume the issue here is that "Lock Horizon" is switched on.
Press the "Menu Button" on your device (Left Button). A Popup Menu should come up. Here disable the "Lock Horizon" option.
Please let me know if this fixed your problem.
Cheers,
Oliver

Re: In Softimage 2013Object only rotates in Y
Oliver,
I tried it both with Lock Horizon checked and unchecked, but there is no difference. I re-confirmed that the Control Panel does not have "Dominant" checked, and "Tilt/Spin/Roll" is checked. The object will only rotate ion the Y axis.
Can you suggest another idea?

I don't have Softimage installed.
Make sure your don't have any constraints active they can stop the X, Z axis.
By the way did it ever work or did this just start happening ?
If it just started you may want to restore all defaults in the 3DConnexion Control panel
You haven't mentioned which driver your using?

Fred,
I made sure that there are no constraints. I can rotate in any axis if I use my normal mouse. Answering whether or not this worked before, the Space Navigator is about a week old. I just got it and it has never worked.
The driver is 6.17.8. I just ran the update wizard, it told me I have the latest version and the software repaired itself. It still is not working.

There is a new driver available to download.
Go to our website-choose Service-Download Drivers
Download and save the current driver.
Before installing uninstall the 6.17.8 driver
This driver is based on the Version 10 Driver.
See if this lets you Tilt/Spin/Roll

Re: In Softimage 2013Object only rotates in Y
Thanks Fred. Unfortunately I had to make a choice of keeping it vs returning it, and the return window was closing. I returned it this morning, both because of this issue and because I couldn't use it in Modo to move objects.
I understand that the Modo implementation falls on The Foundry, but from my perspective the device isn't doing what I need.
