Lost settings upon install of sketchup 2014

Post by 3dsketchy »

I installed sketchup 2014 pro and lost all of my spacemouse pro custom settings for the sketchup program (both 2013 and 2014). I had many custom functions, macros, and sensitivity customizations which I set up when using SU 2013. I have tried using both 2014 and 2013 (they can run in parallel) and neither have the old settings. In the 3D conn control panel I see 2 profiles for SU but they do not have the right settings. I'm super frustrated, can I salvage my old settings somehow?

Downloaded and installed the latest driver as of 1 hour ago. Windows 7 64 bit. SpaceMouse PRO, version 3.17.7, driver version 6.17.7 firmware version 4.34

any support is beyond appreciated, really need to get back to work quickly.

Which device do you have if you installed the current driver for a Spacenavigator the new driver is different from the 3.17.8 driver. This could be why Sketchup 2013 lost its button macros. 2014 would not have them listed due to different version.
The new profile is saved as an XML
The old profile is saved as a .csg I do not know if this can be converted if it can maybe one of the programmers will reply and tell you how to do it.

Thanks for the reply Fred. I'm not sure exactly what you are asking if it is not contained in the above info. I am probably not understanding the terminology. I would say the "device" I am using is the SpaceMouse Pro, am I using the term "device" incorrectly? Not using the Spacenavigator so there might be a little confusion here about which update is the most current.

To get the latest uploads I used the native "update" feature in the control panel. If there is a conversion to do I would love to find out how to do it. I would even take rolling back the update so I could at least write down all my settings as a work around.

Sorry I stopped reading at the description didn't see the SpaceMouse.
No you cant revert back to 3.17.7 unless you have the file on your pc that version is not available.
It also did not have support for Sketchup 2014.
3.17.8 has the updated add-in for Sketchup 2014.

The Spacenavigator and Spacemouse wireless use the new version 10.0 driver.
Open the 3DControl properties and look under help and about.
What does the release and driver version say? it should say RV 3.17.8 and DV 6.17.8
Anything else then you do not have an updated driver installed or you may have installed the X driver 10.0.22

If the profile is corrupted there is no way to recover them.

Ah I understand dont-read-it-all-internetitis I get inflicted with the same disease from time to time.

So there is some strange behavior happening. When I go to the "about" it gives me the same as listed in the original post and quoted in my reply. When I go to tools>update wizard it recognizes that there are newer versions and downloads a bunch of stuff and looks like its updating the program then tells me it was successful. When I reopen the control panel it still lists the same versions. I have run the update wizard 3 times each with the same result.

I am thinking I should probably uninstall and get a clean copy from the website but then I know I will lose the preferences. What would you do?

Uninstall the current version.
Go to our website and download 3.17.8 for your device.
install after the download completes and see what happens if your lucky the profile will get detected and work.

Or do a clean install
http://www.3dconnexion.com/faq/28

Make a copy of the files before uninstalling and doing a clean install so you can place them back in the correct location.

Configurations for your 3Dconnexion device are located in these two places. Location 1 is the filesystem location for the various operating systems and Location 2 is the Windows registry location.

1.WinXp
C: --> Documents and Settings --> [Username] --> Application Data --> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

Vista :
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData --> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

Windows 7 :
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData -->Roaming---> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

2: HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Software --> 3Dconnexion --> ...

To transfer the configurations to another PC.

1: Copy .scg files to:
WinXP
C: --> Documents and Settings --> [Username] --> Application Data --> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

Vista
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData --> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

Windows 7
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData -->Roaming---> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

2: Export the registry key from the old profile and import it into new one.

As always, remember to backup your registry before making any changes. You can make backup copies of the .scg files or use them to transfer settings to a new PC, however ,they will only be of use to transfer to a new PC using the same operating system as your old system. Transferring configuration files from XP to Windows 7 does not work correctly due to the differences in security between the 2 operating systems.

If it doesn't work then its a corrupted profile which can happen when the antivirus software or certain backup software utilities scan and encrypt the file so it cant be read.

Thank you for the help. I successfully installed the latest software and I think I'm going to call it good enough. At this point it might just be easier to recreate all my settings but I will write them down this time in case it happens again. Thanks Fred for being on top of the help, much appreciated

If you have old profiles that won't load, PM them to me. I'll figure out what is wrong with them, fix them and send them back to you. It's crazy for you to have to redo all your customization.
