Spacepilot issues with Solidworks?

Hello,

I just purchased a Spacepilot (used) as I currently use one (new) at my job, and love it. The used one I have purchased lights up, and seems to function, but I cannot program the buttons. When I try to rotate a model in Solidworks, the model disappears immediately, and does not reappear unless you close the file without saving and reopen.

If you save the file after trying to rotate (and the part disappears) then it will stay invisible. I have tried this with larger files also, and they do the same thing. It seems like the math data gets suppressed because the axis spins really fast. If you do a fit via Solidworks after the part goes invisible, you can actually select or grab it, but you cannot measure or manipulate it.

Any ideas as to why it does this? Any fixes for this behavior?

I have installed the latest driver from your site to no avail, and have even put Solidworks on an XP machine I have, but it does the same thing when I try to use the Spacepilot.

We need to look further into this. Do have any other application that supports our devices on your system? Are you able to reproduce the same problem using the "demos"?

I have tried to do the demo (the one that calibrates the equipment, and the tutorial that shows the functionality) and neither one works. I have not been able to program the buttons either.

At my job I have used the Spacepilot in many programs like Powerpoint, DWG Editor (Solidworks add-in) and others, but it was bought brand new.

This unit was purchased used, but it looks like it has never been used - still had the protective plastic covers on it, in the original box.

If you would like for me to ship this unit to you just let me know.

Hello NGomes,

I just wanted to let you know that Brian from Connexion Support called today and suggested that I try the old driver for the Spaceball 4000fx instead of the SpacePilot driver, and it worked!

The SpacePilot is working perfectly! I am running 2004/2005 SolidWorks (keep forgetting to upgrade) and as it turns out, just needed the old driver.

Thanks again for your help with this major (but turned out to be minor) issue.

Please pass the good word about this amazing product to your development team - My hat's off to you all for creating such an intuitive, highly capable (and versatile), not to mention extremely attractive & high tech looking device.

You have all saved my right wrist from years of potential agony! I have been working with SolidWorks since 1998 - with just the mouse to manipulate the geometry!

Older driver:
3DxSoftware64_v3-16-3_r1447.exe – model disappears when I try to rotate it
With newest driver:
3DxWare32_v10-2-9_r2043.exe – I cant rotate the model, just pan it.
What to do?

Hi lauri ed,

when we released 3DxSoftware 3.16.3 SOLIDWORKS 2014 hadn't been released, so this driver version is not ready for SOLIDWORKS 2014. Please uninstall it and then try the newer one again. If you still have problem I recommend that you remove any existing settings as described here.

Next step: verify if the addin is loaded in SOLIDWORKS. Go to Tools -> Add-Ins. There has to be an entry at "Other Add-ins" named "3Dcontrol". Make sure it is active (checkbox on the left) and it gets loaded at "Start Up" (checkbox on the right).
