Proe WF4 Model Flashing When Spinning

Post by dschaefer »

Using a Space Navigator (firmware 4.04, 3DxWare 10, version 10.1.0, 3DxCore version 17.1.0.10275) on Dell M6800, Nvidia Quadro K3100M (driver 327.62), Windows 7 64bit, with Proe WF4 M220.

When I attempt to spin my models, sometimes they spin just fine, other times they just flash repeatedly like it is trying to spin but has to repaint the screen in between every small movement. Can take several tries to get it to spin smoothly. If you hesitate along the way, it sometimes goes into the flashing I've got to let go of everything and wait for it to stop and try again. Quite frustrating.

Also, with larger models the navigator is much slower to spin than the mouse when zoomed out. Once I zoom in to a certain point it suddenly speeds up dramatically.

Any idea how to improve performance?

Hello Doug -

I noticed your question hadn't been answered yet - perhaps because it is not something we usually see. The behavior of the Space Navigator in ProE and Creo is built into the ProE application code - the 3Dx-ProE add-in adds button commands only.

Is this a new install of the Space Navigator or was it working correctly before you noticing the models flashing ? If it was initially working correctly, were there changes in the video driver version or the 3Dconnexion driver version before the flashing began ?

Is there a difference if the model is local or opened from Windchill or a network resource ?

Is this happening only with WF4 but not with your other applications [WF5, Creo 2, SW 2013] ?

My current project is WF4 with a little WF5 mixed in. I haven't seen flashing with WF5, but the models spin very, very slowly

I've had the Space Navigator for a while with few issues, but just got a new laptop and therefor a new install of everything. That's when the flashing issue started.

Hi dschaefer,

as Barbara mentioned - the issue might be related to the graphics card driver. Check of the manufacturer's site if they have a newer one.

Hmm. I'm running 327.62, nVidia has 340.66 available. However, I've had good luck running the recommended driver from Solidwork's site (PTC doesn't provide such recommendations). They recommend 312.32 for my laptop.

I've got no time to play with graphics drivers now, I may look into it later.
