Copy settings files to new computer not working.
Hello all,
I have two workstations, one brand new (workstation #2), one older but still being used (workstation #1) both using Windows 7. I have had one SpacePilot Pro and one Space Navigator for years, and recently purchased another SpacePilot Pro for this new workstation (#2). Here's the recent activity:
Workstation #1 = a.) Backed up my "user00.scg" and "user01.scg"
b.) Upgraded from Inventor 2011 to 2013
c.) Upgraded 3D Connexion Driver to Release Version: 3.16.1
d.) Opened Inventor 2013 and all my settings were already there and working perfectly (no need to restore from a backup)
e.) Everything is working good this machine is perfect
Workstation #2 = a.) Fresh Windows 7 intall on a new machine
b.) Installed Inventor 2013
c.) Connected the 3D Mouse
d.) Installed 3D Connextion Driver (Release Version: 3.16.1)
e.) Opened Inventor and tested the mouse (settings were default as expected but everything worked)
f.) Closed all open programs
g.) Copied my "user00.scg" and "user01.scg" files from Workstation #1 to the specified 3DxWare folder.
h.) Opened Inventor and the settings were STILL all the default ones, not my custom ones.
Question #1: How do I get all of my custom button mapping to show up on my other new machine (workstation #2) without manually setting them up in each environment?
Question #2: Why isn't this process easier? Why no export/import utility in the 3D Mouse Home program or something?

Hello jeanchile,
the addin 3DxInventor does not save the settings in the scg file. These settings are saved somewhere in the registry. Unfortunately there is no official and tested process to export and import these settings.

Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
Okay... so that's 18 different Inventor environments, with an average of 17 buttons that need to be reconfigured to our needs, that's 306 drag-and-drop operations (not counting the opening and closing of all the different environments) per machine.... right now we have (2) SpacePilot Pro's and one Space Navigator.... we were thinking of buying everyone in the department a SpacePilot Pro... so that's 21 machines times 306 drag-and-drops...
THAT'S 6,426 TIME-CONSUMING, FIND-THE-COMMAND-AND-DROP-IT-IN-THE-RIGHT-LOCATION, OPERATIONS!!!
Not happening.... so what you're telling me is that it's time to look at other controller options... aren't you.

Hello jeanchile,
you can try the following: start regedit and go to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Add-In for Inventor. Export it and import it to the new user’s registry.
Note: Registry modifications should only be made by experienced personnel. As an incorrect registry setting can cause serious problems, you should always make a backup of the registry prior to making any changes.
Note: this is not an officially supported process. Any changes you make are on your own risk.

Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
I tried this but for Solidworks, but it does not work....
Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
I found a file in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg that just did that.

Hello zazz,
the information above is for 3DxSoftware - our now legacy driver. All settings are saved now in the XML files in the location you mentioned. Which is %APPDATA%\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg.

Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
Make sure you have the same version of the driver installed on both machines.
Additionally you have to check if the files are copied to the correct folder: %APPDATA%\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg of the logged in user. If you start an application "As Administrator" the folder would be the %APPDATA%\3Dconnexion\... of the Administrator).

Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
We can easy locate the files on each machine with same driver installed, but the xml are not the same names?
Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
If they are not the same name then they are probably profiles for different applications.

Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
No their changing names all the time today mine is named 3964.1379148.commands and 3964.1379148.settings, yesterday it was 7956.198262.commands and 7956.198262.settings

Re: Copy settings files to new computer not working.
These are not names we are using. The names of the XML files are the names of the programs (AdobeReader.xml, Firefox.xml, Inventor.xml, ProE.xml, SolidWorks.xml, ...).
It might be that you are looking in a different folder. You should look at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg. Do not search for the files in the Local folder, but in Roaming.
