Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
I'm using the Spacenavigator WIreless with 3DxWare 10 version 10.1.4 (WinCore version 17.1.4.10702) with Solidworks 2014 x64 SP.0.
The problem I am having is that as I am moving or rotating the model with the space navigator it is dynamically highlighting everything that cursor of my other mouse passes over. This is causing considerable stuttering as the lines in the models are highlighted. As soon as I halt inputs on the spacenavigator the problem stops and group of lines dynamically highlighted stop being dynamically highlighted.
Any ideas how to fix this issue please?

Update: Turns out the error only occurs in assemblies and not in single part documents
Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
Actually, it is in both part and assemblies, not just assemblies

Hello whitworth -
The Dynamic Highlight function in 3DxSolidWorks is meant to turn off dynamic highlighting while your device is moving the model or part then re-enable it when movement stops.
The option to turn off the Dynamic Highlight in 3DxSolidworks is not present in the 3DxWare user interface. It is still possible to turn it off using the registry key that controls it.
Usually the only time this does not work properly is when a device is not calibrated correctly - so the software is still getting input after you stop moving the device cap. The 3DxWare driver auto-calibrates when the driver starts so calibration is not often an issue. You can try correcting the problem by manually calibrating from the right-click menu in the System Tray.
Right-click on the 3dxware icon in your System Tray at the bottom right of the screen near the time , then click 'Calibrate' from the menu.
If that does not correct the problem, you can turn off Dynamic Highlight in the Windows registry.
Open the Windows registry [regedit.exe]<
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3DxSolidWorks
Value: DisableDynamicHighlight
The default value is zero [0 = On] , changing the value to 1 turns the dynamic highlight function off.

Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
Hi Barbara,
Thank you for the reply. I've calibrated the device, but unfortunately the problem still persists. As I rotate the part with the spacenavigator and move the mouse over it everything is highlighting. I have tried with three different mice (one being a laptop touchpad) and it does the same each time. I've also tried it with Solidworks 2011 and it happens on that version also, so it's not a version specific problem.
I don't want to have to switch Dynamic Highlighting off as it's a feature that I need to use within Solidworks - selecting lines within Solidworks is a lot more accurate with it on.
At the moment it seems that dynamic highlighting is not being turned off properly by the software when the model is being rotated - is there anything else I can try doing to cure the problem? It's only when both input devices (spacenavigator and mouse) and being moved simulataneously

I've posted a video on youtube showing the problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCIS2x3IEy0
I assume the continuous dynamic highlight isn't an intended function - it makes things very laggy on large models.

Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
Hello whitworth -
Was navigation previously working correctly in SolidWorks assemblies - not causing the problem with dynamic highlighting ?
If it was, there could be a problem as with a profile that could be corrected by returning the configurations to defaults as shown here.
We have a lot of SolidWorks users and have not been seeing this issue reported.
You mentioned that you have tried different mice - are you in an environment where you could try the Space Mouse Wireless with a different SolidWorks system? That would tell us whether the origin of the problem is something in the SolidWorks settings.

Hi Barbara,
I just tried resetting the configuration details using your method, but it hasn't made any difference.
I'm going to format the computer in question today and see if that changes anything and if not, I will try a solidworks install on a different computer and get back to you.

Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
If you make the setting in the registry as Barbara described (set the regkey to 1) you do not switch the Dynamic Highlighting off in SolidWorks completely. It is off only if you navigate with your 3D mouse.whitworth wrote: I don't want to have to switch Dynamic Highlighting off as it's a feature that I need to use within Solidworks - selecting lines within Solidworks is a lot more accurate with it on.

Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
Originally the regkey change was reverting back, meaning it wouldn't switch dynamic highlighting off. However, with the new install the regkey change works so it's off when rotating with the space navigator. Thanks for the help!
Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
I have the same issue with SpaceMouse Pro... i will test the suggested register setting....
Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
Setting DisableDynamicHighlight to 1 did not help at all, restarted Solidworks still the same - Do i need to restart the computer for it to work? Testing that now
Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
Restarting the computer did not help either
Re: Spacenavigator highlighting everything in Solidworks?!
...and the setting was reverted back to Zero again
