Button Maps only working in Solidworks Assemblies

Post by Arsalonius »

For some reason, when I map the buttons with solidworks open, the mapping resets to defaults if I open a Solidworks .part file. Opening new assemblies keeps the mapping. Am I doing something wrong when I set the buttons? I'm using the properties manager to do it.

Thanks

So it's not just me, that's good I guess. Have you found this issue with any other programs? I don't use my mouse for anything other than Solidworks.

Hi Arsalonious,

what you see is called "Intelligent Function Keys". :) You have a button mapping for each environment in SolidWorks. If you open the button mapping window you will the environment that you are making the button mapping for. See as well our help file - "SpaceMouse Customization -> Application specific -> SolidWorks". At the top of the page you can see this:

Button Mapping in SolidWorks

Each environment, such as sketch, part or assembly has its own button mapping. Your 3D Mouse automatically recognizes the active environment.
All changes to the buttons in the active mode are only effective for the active environment.
The active environment is shown in bold on the top left of the button mapping panel.

What I have found is that if you use "Properties" to modify the commands, they don't 'stick'. In other words, the commands will revert to what they were. :?

What I ended up doing was using "Properties" to temporarily map the menu key to: "Show Pop-up Menu". Then, in THAT window, you can drag and drop the commands you want (as shown above), and they stay permanent.

The whole key here, once you get to the Pop Up Menu, is to map the Menu button (by dragging and dropping) to: "Show Pop-up Menu" in all places. Then that command will always be available. I hope this helps.

Too bad there are no instructions on how to do this, plus, it was too bad that the Menu button isn't already mapped to Show Pop-Up for ALL windows in all programs.

That sounds as if you have an older version of our driver. The latest version is 3DxWare 10.2.2 and you can download it here in case you do not yet have it. :)
