1/30/2015 release - Config Properties Control Panel broken

Post by dude2015 »

Is anyone else having a problem with the 1/30/2015 release configuration GUI not working?

When I try to run "3Dconnexion Properties" (3DxSmartUi.exe) , NOTHING happens. No popup, no error, nothing!

The default Z & Y axis always needs swapping. I cant use the mouse without changing the config.
I had to update because I began getting "side-by-side configuration errors"(?) when stopping/starting the previous driver.

Ive used space navigators for years. First time ive had a problem like this.
Its a win7 machine. Have tried reinstalling several times. Ive tried to manually find and edit the default cfg file, but havent been successful yet.

I have tried downleveling from 3DWare64 10.2.2 to 10.2.1 to 10.0.22 The 3DxSmartUi.exe Control Panel Propreties GUI will not run on any of these

I then tried going further back to 3SxSoftware64 versions 3.18.0 and 3.16.3 Both would not install and resulted in an "Error 1001"

I then went beck to what I been working until a few days ago ... v3.13.0 It installed, but would not start and gave a "side-by-side" configuration error. (??)

Is anyone else having similar problems with the 3d Space Navigator on a win7 system? I have had NO problems with the 3d nouse or its driver for over 3 years, then updated to altium AD15 and now the new properties configutation program does not work. The mouse itself does work, I just cant change any of its properties.

Ive left test and voice messages at 3dconnexion , but response. Anyone have any ideas?

Or does anyone know which XMLcfg files to change to swap Y and Z axis?

Hello dude2015 -

First , the install error : Error 1001 indicates an issue with the .NET framework installation. Make sure you are logged into an account with full admin permissions.
Check if the Microsoft .NET Framework system feature is enabled: open the Windows Control Panel | Programs and Features - Turn Windows features on or off on the panel's left-hand side and confirm the .NET option is enabled. If it is enabled, try cycling it: disable the option, reboot, re-enable the option, reboot. After that, run the 3Dconnexion installer again and it should be able to complete.

With the two different software types - the current 3DxWare and the legacy 3DxSoftware - it is important to make sure one is completely removed before installing the other. The Windows uninstall often misses a folder. After un-installing the 3Dconnexion software, unplug the device and check that BOTH of the 3Dconnexion folders in Program Files are gone - C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion and C:\Program Files (x86)\3Dconnexion. If one remains , delete it.

Next , the GUI a.k.a 3Dconnexion Control Panel or 3Dconnexion Properties. You should be able to open it from its System Tray icon , from its link in the 3Dconnexion folder in the Start menu or from a button on the device [ left button on Space Navigator, Menu button on the devices that have one].

Now , the axis swapping question. The axis options in the 3DxWare 10 driver behave differently than in the 3DxSoftware driver versions.

In the 3DxSoftware driver the Spin and Roll axis directions were swapped when changing the Zoom direction. Rather than reversing the movement on the axis, the Spin axis is swapped for the Roll axis when the opposite zoom direction is selected.

In the 3DxWare driver the automatic axis swap is no longer used - changing the zoom direction does not swap the Spin axis with the Roll axis.

If you want the opposite behavior, you could use the legacy driver or edit profiles as described here.

This does not work!
I have tried this, and I still get ERROR 1001 and ERROR 1603 when I try to install drivers for my Spacenavigator in Windows 10.
