SpacePilot Pro - Buttons Randomly Reassign Themselves

I'm using it mostly with Autodesk Product Design Suite 2016, but the issue is the same across other software as well. I've had this problem with other SP Pro devices on other PCs as well.

At random times, the buttons re-map themselves to all sorts of random stuff. For instance, right now the ESC key on my SP Pro does a combination of rotate left, opens the on screen number pad, and also opens up the settings screen.

I've unplugged the thing and re-plugged it in. I've killed all the 3D Connexion processes in the task manager and re-started 3DxWare. I haven't rebooted yet, this time, but that will probably solve it for now.

Anyone know why this keeps happening, and how to maybe stop it from happening any more?

Never mind ... rebooting didn't do it.

Off to manually reassign all my keys back to what they're supposed to be, I guess.

Well, that didn't work either.

Neither did uninstalling / reinstalling 3DxWare.

So far I have already:

1. Killed all the drivers with task manager and restarted them.
2. Rebooted the computer.
3. Uninstalled the drivers completely, downloaded a fresh copy and installed that.
4. #3 over again, but this time with reboots after uninstallation and again after reinstallation.
5. Reset the buttons to default in the 3DX control panel.
6. Manually reset the buttons to what they're supposed to be, again in the 3DX Control panel.
7. Changed USB ports.

None of the above have any effect.

It's only the keys on the SP that do this - the ESC / CTRL / ALT / SHIFT keys on the keyboard work as you'd expect.

It's not a mapping issue within Inventor - the same issues happen in Chrome, Acrobat, the desktop, and every other program where I've tried it.

this sounds as if this is a hardware problem with your device.

- Do you get the same behavior if you map the ESC to one of the other buttons?
- Do you have issues with the ESC button if you map any other command to it that works correctly on one of the other buttons?

All of the buttons do this, not just escape.

I can re-map it to, for instance, the letter C. When I do this, it will give me the letter C every time ... but it will also still bring up the virtual keypad, the menu and turn the sensitivity down.

I'll try it on a different computer today if I have time. We'll see what it does there.

Okay, installed 3.18.0 on an XP laptop (Thinkpad T61) I had kicking around. Worked perfectly, no problems at all.

Brought it back to my workstation again ... and now it's fine here too.

I still want to know why it's doing this. It's not the first SP Pro that I've seen this behavior from.
