Issues with Acrobat and IE

Post by bazookazuz »

I am using a SpaceExplorer to navigate PDFs. I am able to navigate them if they are directly opened with Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, but not if they are opened in an IE window. I found that if I right click, I am able to navigate as long as the right-click menu is open, but that is not hardly a good fix. Any help?

Here is my system info:
Windows XP 64
IE 7
Acrobat Reader 7.0
Acrobat Professional 7.0

Issues with Acrobat and IE

Hi Bazookazuz

If you are using the Acrobat Reader 7, please make an upgrade to 8, remove completely 3DxSoftware following the description from here. Afterwards install again 3DxSoftware v3.3.2 (the newest release available to download).

At a final step I would ask you to share your experience by posting here.

Hi agoenczi,

I had the same problem, only I had already Acrobat 8 Pro installed and I use a SpaceNavigator PE.
I removed 3DxSoftware and removed all folders called 3Dconnexion under every Application Data folder I could find (at least that is what I thought you meant by "%appdata%\3Dconnexion"?) and the two registry folders. After that I restarted my computer, just in case.
But after reinstalling 3DxSoftware 3.3.2 it still can't navigate a PDF in IE7 (it does work with right-click menu open, like bazookazuz mentioned). The buttons however seem to work (I have Page Down en Page Up configured to them).
Did I miss something during the uninstall?

IE 7 and Acrobat

Hi JdO

Please check if you have the Plug-in installed. You can check that by searching the readme for the Acrobat plug-in. You will have to look in "Start -> All Programs -> 3Dconnexion -> 3Dconnexion Plug-in for Acrobat 3D".

The readme file contains only a version information: 1.0.5.422

Please post afterwarsd your findigs here.

Hi agoenczi,

I've checked it and mine has the same version: 1.0.5.422.
Like I said, I have the same problem only within Acrobat Pro 8.
It does work within Acrobat 8 itself, just not when opening PDFs within IE7. So I do have the plugin installed.
I didn't yet try to reinstall Adobe Pro 8 itself again, but I might do that sometime. Rather not though...
But to ask you again: did I uninstall it the right way in the first place?
I removed 3DxSoftware and removed all folders called 3Dconnexion under every Application Data folder I could find (at least that is what I thought you meant by "%appdata%\3Dconnexion"?) and the two registry folders. After that I restarted my computer, just in case.
Because I wasn't sure what %appdate% meant, but I guess I did it right though.

O btw, I use XP Pro 32-bit version

IE 7 and Acrobat

Hi JdO

Unfortunately inside IE7 the Adobe Acrobat Reader behaves differently. You can navigate in 3D in Adobe Acrobat Reader, but not in the Adobe Acrobat Reader as a plug-in in the IE7.

Hi agoenczi,

That's too bad, because I use that feature a lot. Do you know if this is going to be fixed in the future?

IE 7 and Acrobat

Post by agoenczi »

Hi JdO

There are 2 different cases with the Acrobat Reader as a stand-alone application and Acrobat Reader Plug-In for IE7:

In the first case you use Acrobat Reader as a stand-alone application and a stand-alone application could have an API (Application Programmer Interface) which permits developers to write Plug-Ins for that application. With the API available for Acrobat Reader implemented 3Dconnexion support for 3D mice.

In the second case the Acrobat Reader Plug-In uses an API from the IE7. In this case Acrobat Reader is a Plug-In which hasn't an API of his own - you will see the same limitation with Apple QuickTime: the navigation with 3D mice works in the stand-alone application but doesn't work in the Plug-In for IE7.
