Windows 10 and 3dsmax 2014 is no go with space navigator

Post by darshie76 »

Hi all.

I have a Space Navigator since few years now; and loved it.

Lately I did not use it much, so now that I moved on Windows 10, I decided to use it again. Beside the fact that the plastic of the knob became sticky; it works fine so far with windows 10.

The problem thou is 3dsmax 2014. The only movement that the application recognize, is the zoom. Also when I push the button to config it, it won't see 3dsmax but firefox, even if I have the window selected and I am actually working in 3dsmax. I don't see issues with other application; so the problem seems to be Max.

How do I fix this? I did remove the drivers and install again (including removing by hand the register entry and the folders in the hidden directories); I did restart, I did disconnect and connect the device, but so far nothing works. I did search and seems that Max should work; although I tried all the suggestions in this forum and nothing seems to work.

Thanks

Found the problem.

After installing yet again the drivers, I noticed that in 3dsmax, the folder for the scripts and plugin require authentication as admin. I suppose that during install of Max, the setup made these folder as admin only.

This result in the drivers install to fail to copy the correct files in the Max folder; which is why the SN won't work....

I had to copy the script and the 64 bit file into the appropriate Max folder; after authentication I did restart max and now the SN works.

Not sure why the driver installer does not alert the user that the files were not installed...wasted few hours for something that could've been more clear from the installer :)
