Solid Edge ST7 - SpaceNavigator USB - ISSUE

Post by ncsteinb »

Hi, first post.

I've been using my SpaceNavigator USB for many, many years with Solid Edge ST1 - ST7, and SolidWorks, but for some reason, it has limited functionality with ST7. I've been running the same installation of ST7 for a year now, and all of a sudden, lost functionality. The control panel does not recognize ST7 when in focus. Sometimes, it will allow me to zoom up on the part, but only very crudely. I've tried testing the SN using the JET program and SolidWorks, both of which work as expected.

Has anyone else had this issue with ST7? It's been nothing but rock solid for as long as I've used it, until today... :/

Thanks for the input!

Hello Nevin -

SolidEdge uses a 3Dconnexion add-in and requires the add-in to communicate with the Space Navigator.

Appplication updates can sometimes require a re-install of the add-in or the add-in has been affected in some other way.

You may be able to repair the software by running the installer again with SolidEdge closed.

If that does not restore the SolidEdge add-in a clean install with applications closed would correct the problem.

Barbara, thanks for the input. I have tried what you listed, including a clean install, but no luck.

When I open the 3DConnexion control panel and click on Solid Edge, it displays Solid Edge in focus (like it should be controlling SE), but I still have no control over the model... I still have full control with SolidWorks using the SN...

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Nevin

Hi ncsteinb,

verify if you start the driver and the application as the same user. Usually the driver and the application have to be running at the same level. Normally a regular user. If one is elevated, windows security will prevent the lower level one from talking to the higher level one.

Thank you for the advice.

I have the controller working with Solid Edge, however, now, the 3DC Control Panel won't show Solid Edge in focus. For some reason, the 3D Input Device was unchecked and the Add-Ins do not appear in the ribbon. Also, the movement is very choppy and shaky. In my past years of using the SN with Solid Edge, the movement has always been beautiful and fluid.

Do you think I should reinstall Solid Edge?

Cheers,
Nevin

Hi ncsteinb,

for any reason the addin is not loaded in Solid Edge. The addin is needed to get the full functionality to navigate.

You followed Barbara's advise to reinstall the driver completely?

Please remove the file SolidEdge.xml from your folder %APPDATA%\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg and restart Solid Edge. Does this help?

Do you have the latest driver (3DxWare 10.2.9)?
