Cadmouse - adjusting quickzoom sensitivity

Post by RANS0M »

Hi guys,

I am using a Cadmouse on SolidWorks and I updated my drivers a few days ago.

I set the QuickZoom buttons to 'QuickZoom In' and 'QuickZoom Out'. However I find the zoom is too sensitive (i.e. when I click zoom in once, it zooms too far for me). Is there any way to customise this?

One option I was playing with was to create a macro for the quickzoom buttons: one click = wheel rotate forward x5. However, to get the level of zoom I wanted, I needed to set it to around 50x and it was clunky in operation. To try and fix this, I increased the wheel sensitivity using the Windows mouse wheel settings but it made no change in SolidWorks or AutoCAD strangely.

Note that changing the Windows mouse properties did affect Office applications (Excel, Word) however. I.e. the following two examples get the same result:
- Windows setting: 'roll one notch to scroll 5 lines', Macro setting: 'wheel forward x5' yielded 5x5 = 25 lines
- Windows setting: 'roll one notch to scroll 1 lines', Macro setting: 'wheel forward x25' yielded 1x25 = 25 lines

Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: there seems to be an issue with making macros. Making a macro of 5x wheel rotate seems to zoom approx. the same amount as 50x wheel rotate..

Hi RANSOM,

you updated the driver to the latest version? Then it should be 3DxWare 10.4.4. Can you confirm?

See if removing the existing configurations makes a difference.

Sometimes these applications don't notice (or care) about the values of the scrollwheel. You often need to play with the timing to get them to move more/less, not the value.

Thanks for the responses.

uTaSH: 3DxWare 10.4.4 confirmed. I will try removing the configurations and let you know what happens.

jwick: I am not sure what you mean by playing with the timing. Is this a setting that can be changed, or do you mean timing of when I click the quickscroll buttons?

Hi uTaSH,

Thanks again, but I removed the configurations but the behaviour is the same. For now, I I'll just use the 3Dconnexion presets (Quickzoom In/Out), instead of the macros.

I'll add a post in the 'new feature requests' asking for a setting to modify the quickzoom sensitivity. Perhaps the solution is to have two speeds, say: 1) for full sensitivity just click Quickzoom, 2) for half sensitivity use CTRL+Quickzoom.
