Hi all,
I just got my space navigator, it's as good as I remember it back when I used to work on Rhino 3d 2 years ago.
The new company I work for has Inventor, I've learned the software and Igot them to order a space navigator for me.
I am having issues editing the direction controls. Some research shows that this is impossible, I want to know why honestly...
I want to make it so when I twist the controller left of right (think if you point your thumb upwards as the upwards direciton) it only rotates around the thumb axis
In the case of inventor the upwards pointing axis is the Y axis. Currently the controller will not let me edit which action does what, I remember being able to change it for Rhino.

Re: Cannot edit direcitons in Inventor
I'm starting to think that it isn't inventor, but the driver itself.
Why can't I swap the side to side direction with the twist direction? That's my main problem, the controller direction is no customizable at all....
The left right lean of the controller does what I need the twisting to do

Re: Cannot edit direcitons in Inventor
Yeah not being able to change the axis makes this controller next to useless for me right now, the way the controls are set up is very hard to use and every time i try to rotate the model it just keeps zooming in. When you twist and rotate you don't run the risk of zooming in, if you just tilt it left to right it keeps zooming in
because my zoom is set up to be up and down.
Why did you make a great device with uncustomizable axes?

Hi exyboxy,
I am not sure I understand what exactly you want the controller to do. The device is designed in the way that the object on screen does exactly what you are doing with the cap of the 3D mouse. If you tilt the cap to the left the object is tilted to the left, if you push the cap away from you the object is zoomed out.
If this is not the way you want the device to navigate then please see the "Advanced Settings" where you can change the "Zoom Direction" and reverse the axes if needed.

Re: Cannot edit direcitons in Inventor
I want to be able to re assign the roles, for example I want to be able to manually assign zoom to side to side if I wanted to, I did research and the only result that popped up was this:

Which states that if you want to do what I want to do you have to edit some seemingly confusing text file

Re: Cannot edit direcitons in Inventor
That's a very old thread. It refers to a very old driver, and a very confusing configuration file.
The new files are easier to understand (hopefully). But sadly there is no GUI to help you.
