No ball action, buttons but no ball GGGGRrrrrrrRRr

Post by 4nt »

Hi I just purchase a HP spaceball 5000 from a reseller, the hardware comes up in windows as 4000, I read that the serial 5000 is just a 4000 but my problem is that the buttons work but not the ball!

I have downloaded the drivers from the website but would like the games demo to try if they work, the ball does not seem to work in any applications and I was worried I had been sold a duff ball

does anyone have a copy if the demo disk?

oh and im on XP sp2 32bit, latest driver, and i'm trying on maya8 and 3dsmax9

Hi 4nt

Is your device a serial device? If so you will find only older releases for your device.

If you though have a device with USB interface please test it with one of the demos delivered with 3DxSoftware. You will find the demos here: "Start -> All Programs -> 3Dconnexion -> 3Dconnexion 3DxWare -> Demos". I would suggest you the Cube3D Demo, but you can choose the demo you want.

WTF!!!!!!!!!

Have i just wasted my money on an obsolete product?!?!?!?

surely the hardware is just the same and the drivers can be updated, i just tried installing the newer driver and now it's not recognised at all

Is quite a nice looking albeit expensive paper weight

Hi nt4

The serial devices aren't supported under Windows with new software any more. The last release which you can use is 3DxSoftware v2.8.2 available for download on our driver download page.

Please remove the release of 3DxSoftware you just installed and install release v2.8.2 - your device will work. If you will have any problems, please post here.

OK, I installed the old drivers, nothing worked, installed the new driver, nothing worked, installed the old driver back over the new driver (making sure to select the check box for the driver) and it works

THIS THING IS AMAZING, YOUR PRODUCT IS SOOOOO GOOOD! I think this is the general opinion but your forum is flooded with lost users, there are some really good posts by your company stating the history and development of the spaceball, but how about a sticky to help those with serial devices, all it has to say is the instruction above.....

Hi 4nt

If you will have similar problems, please remove completely 3DxSoftware as described here. Finally install the version you need (for serial devices it is the 3DxSoftware v2-8-2).

that link didn't make any sense? different topic

No, it doesn't work with only the 2.8.2 version, it needs all the stuff from the new driver, (ya get meh!) , this is the only way I can understand it to work

step 1 : install 2.8.2
step 2 : install 3.3.6
step 3 : install 2.8.2 (make sure driver box is checked)
step 4 : enjoy 3d freedom

and voila! try it yourselves, i'm sure you have a spare serial spaceball at work?!?
