3DxService RAM usage nearly 1GB. Ow?
New user here, I picked up a SpaceNavigator a few days ago and am really loving it. But, the drivers are sucking up 930MB of RAM, and that is just a terrible number. Is there something that can be done to fix this? Do I need older drivers? Nearly a gig of RAM is just nuts, unless this is 3Dconnexion's way of helping pump up DRAM sales.

Sorry. That's a bug. We are looking at it. Restart your driver periodically.
For my information in finding the bug, what apps are you typically running? I don't know yet if it is related.

Thanks, I appreciate you looking into it and being aware.jwick wrote:Sorry. That's a bug. We are looking at it. Restart your driver periodically.

I'm running x64 Windows 10 Pro, and mainly use it with Solidworks. I'll keep task manager open and see if that helps me spot any kind of trend I can let you know about, thanks. One other thing I noticed, apparently the device shows up as a USB Game Controller that can't be calibrated and doesn't respond to controls at all. I've read other articles talking about using the controller as a stick, and that could be great if it worked.

Thanks. It is a high priority bug.
The device's Joystick emulation works (AFAIK), but you have to create a cfg for the application/game that tells the driver to output joystick events. There is no longer GUI support for this.
Otherwise, the joystick is just sitting there unused. In some cases it causes a problem because the app/game may find it and stop looking for more devices. In this case a real device you have attached will be ignored. Those are particularly poorly implemented games/apps, but I won't mention any names.

Thanks for the information on that, I had read a few things about it and was hoping that maybe the removal of it from the GUI was something that might be temporary. If not, that's understandable, but disappointing. I'm willing to throw a lot of money at your parent company if they merge your hardware with the recent Saitek acquisition for some good flight controls for my gaming PC. SpaceHOTAS, anyone? I'll update this thread if I discover anything that might be pertinent to the RAM usage, though, and am willing to try any beta drivers that might need testing.
Re: 3DxService RAM usage nearly 1GB. Ow?
I'm happy to say that the RAM usage for 10.4.9 appears to be about 1/10th as bad as it was before, at only a reasonable 95.6MB from the main service and 75MB for the profile server which I think was fine before. Good fix.
