AutoCAD pick box changes to Windows pointer...

Post by Sailinshuz »

Here's a good one:

During my use of the AutoCAD trim command, my pick box changes to Windows arrow / pointer while panning and trimming objects. It is very annoying and counter productive to have to select the AutoCAD application title bar to bring the focus back to AutoCAD and to change the Windows arrow / pointer back to my trimming pick box.

Any ideas on when this can be fixed? Got to be a driver issue.

AutoCAD pick box changes to Windows pointer...

Post by agoenczi »

Hi Sailinshuz,

I could reproduce the issue you described. However I don't consider it as a real issue (in the way I could reproduce it) because Windows waited for an input: an <Enter>, a mouse click, or another input, displaying in the same time a menu from which I could choose (with a mouse click) a menu-point. On the other hand the "Pan" function moved the lines I drafted and while navigating the Windows-mouse-cursor appeared. In this case AutoCAD changes the default (it is the setting I use) 2D model representation to the 3D model representation (as you can observe on the displayed coordinate system symbol as well).

I used AutoCAD2008 and I just used the "Trim" function to shorten some lines and I selected afterwards the lines and used the "Pan" function to move all of them.

Could you describe a scenario in which it is really necessary to bring the focus back to AutoCAD because you have no other choice (no menu displayed, for instance)?

agoenczi,

Selecting the Auto Regen option in the config menu solved my problem, however:

You asked:

"Could you describe a scenario in which it is really necessary to bring the focus back to AutoCAD because you have no other choice (no menu displayed, for instance)?"

My Answer:

When I have more line to trim that do not already appear in the drawing editor.

This is a huge issue to those of us who run AutoCAD all day, daily.

Anyway, I solved my own problem

Hi Sailinshuz

I suppose you are using an older version of 3DxSoftware as the current one doesn't have the option of setting "Auto Regen" any more. However you can set this modus in AutoCAD as this is an AutoCAD feature.

agoenczi,

using version 3.3.6, with 3.2.6 AutoCAD add-in.

Hopefully this problem does not exist with 2008.

What version are you using?

Regenauto in Acad...

AutoCAD pick box changes to Windows pointer...

Hi Sailinshuz

The issue you described is still present in AutoCAD2008. I tested with AutoCAD 2008 and the newest release we have: 3DxSoftware v3-4-2. However I would recommend that you make an upgrade to this release (which is available since July, the 13-th) as this contains a serie of bug fixes as well. The AutoCAD2008 Add-In number is 4.1.3, the previous available release contained the Add-In 4.1.1.

I would also recommend to read the content of the readme.txt (available under "Start -> All Programs -> 3Dconnexion -> 3Dconnexion Add-In for AutoCAD 2008").

agoenczi,

Does a 3Dx toolbar load in Acad 2008?

If yes, is there a 3Dx icon for config options?

If yes, please open the program.

Is there an Auto Regen option?

If yes, please select it and try panning and zooming with an AutoCAD command active.

Does the Windows pointer remain active in AutoCAD?

Hi William W. Kelley,

With AutoCAD 2007 (and AutoCAD 2007 based programs such as Mechanical Desktop 2007 and similars) you should only install 3DxSoftware v3.4.2 as this software package already contains the plug-ins for AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD 2008. If you have an older version of AutoCAD, please download the "AutoCAD (pre-2007)" plug-in available in our archive. You can do that by selecting your device under "STEP 1" at first, then "Archive (Legacy Software)" under "STEP 2" and finally "AutoCAD (pre-2007)" under "STEP 3".

You can also use your device with Bentley's AutoPlant 2004 by downloading and installing the "Microstation plug-in" available also in the archive (see the above description).

Important note: The described software components are not actively developed any more. That's why you can download, install and use the, on an "as is" basis.
