Rotation is slow in Solidworks

Post by John Hampton »

Hi, I've been using my Space Navigator PE on Inventor professional for about 6 months now & it's really great. Very smooth & without any bugs.

I'm now moving over to Solidworks (2007 SP04) & the movement is awful. Very jerky & very slow. Is there any tip/fix for this?

My machine hasn't changed configuration & Inventor continues to work fine.

Rotation is slow in Solidworks

Hi John Hampton,

Please increase the "Device Sensitivity" so that the movement satisfy your needs while navigating. You can do that by clicking to the "Increase Sensitivity" symbol in the plugin, or you can start the driver GUI (3Dconnexio Control Panel) and pull to the right the "Overall Speed" slide bar.

If increasing the speed does not help, load or create a very simple model (like a cube). Let us know if you see a much improved change in performance.

Thanks for the quick reply. Increasing speed is not really an issue ( and works fine). As soon as I go from a simple cube to say a simple moulding ( about 20 faces & 190KB in size) the movement becomes jerky. Switching to wireframe improves the problem greatly.

I don't think it is system capabilty since Inventor is very smooth even on 30Mb models!

It may be I have to change the way my graphics card (http://www.ati.com/products/fireglt2-128/) works or how it is used in S/W.

Watch this space!

Hmmmmm, in S/W Tools/Options/Spin Box Increments, I've set the length & angle increments down very low & it's made it much better ( not as good as Inventor though).

Thanks for your help, maybe I'll have to ask for a bigger , better, faster PC. Yesss!

Hi John Hampton,

You may also check if enabled the "large assembly mode" improves performance. Normally, you should expect the some sort of performance as when using the normal mouse.
