Spaceball Beeps but no device found.

Post by SimonD »

I have a Spaceball 4000 Serial.
I am running Windows XP SP2

I have tried the following drivers...
3DxWare_v3-5-15_win32_reg.exe
3DxSoftware_v2-8-2.exe

Both make the spaceball do it's normal initialisation double beep three time with a couple of seconds between and then report that "No 3D Motion Controller Could Be Detected"

Please advise.

Thanks

Spaceball Beeps but no device found

Hi SimonD

If you have to use SpaceBall 4000 the only choice you have is to try again with 3DxSoftware v2-8-2 as this is the last release which offers support for 3D mice under Windows.

However I would advise you to buy a brand new device (SpaceNavigator PE only costs $59 - see the products available on the web page) of 3Dconnexion and in this case you could use for sure your device in the newest applications with the newest 3DxSoftware.

If you would like to make a try with your SpaceBall 4000 please follow the steps described below:

Please remove completely all 3Dx components from your system as described here.

Finally you should install 3DxSoftware again and test the device in your application.

Note that you can't use a SpaceBall 4000 in an application which was later released as the 3DxSoftware v2-8-2 was. For instance GoogleEarth, GoogleSketchUp, AutoCAD 2008 will not work with SpaceBall 4000.
