SpaceNavigator PE stopped working in 3ds Max 8

Post by frank »

Hello, I am using the Nav. PE on Vista 64 bit. I downloaded the drivers and everything was working fine within Google Earth and 3ds 8. A couple days later and it stopped working in 3ds, yet still functioning properly in Google Earth.
I should note that the buttons work, (have them set to default), but am not able to rotate, zoom, etc.

I'm going to try some more troubleshooting, but any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

SpaceNavigator PE stopped working in 3ds Max 8

Hi frank

Did you made any change in 3DS Max 8?

Perhaps you saved a configuration with the rotate/roll functions disabled for 3DS Max8. I would suggest to delete the saved configuration for MAX, displayed in the driver GUI as "3D Studio MAX - <username>" and then try again.

Please post your findings here.

Hi there agoenczi,

By the driver GUI, I'm assuming you mean within the control panel. If I am incorrect on this, please let me know.

I have not configured any customized controls, nor have I yet set up any specific user configurations for certain programs.

I opened the control panel and under options, I reset to defaults and restarted my machine. Same thing is happening, Google Earth works, 3ds Max 8 does not.

There is a drop down box that read 'Any Application', and that is the only option there.

I also searched within 3ds Max 8 to see if there was a setting in there perhaps, but could find nothing.

Hi frank

Please open the 3dconnexion control panel. Pan it to a corner and start 3DS Max in a not maximazed windows so that you can see the 3dconnexion control panel. Check what application will be displayed. You should have a "3D Studio MAX" and a "3D Studio MAX - <username>" profile. If so, please click on the "3D Studio MAX - <username>" and then remove it.

Please start the add-in in 3DS Max (by clicking onto the hammer symbol with the balloon "Utilities", below you should see a cell called "3DxStudio 4.4", then activate the "Control Panel") and check if "Disable Rolling" is checked. If so, please uncheck and try again.

agoenczi, thanks for the detailed info. I followed the instructions, but it was still not working. The only thing that works to fix this, is to reinstall from the cd, but then that is only temporary. Back to the controller not responding in 3ds.

I'm having the exact same problem. My Space Navigator initially worked in 3ds Max 8. That lasted about a day. Now it doesn't work, even though the drivers are in the proper folders and I see the 3dconnexion banner when Max loads.

I'm running Vista Home Premium, and downloaded the latest drivers from 3dconnexion.
