And to add insult to injury, the 3D mouse doesn't do anything either.
I followed the "Quickstart Guide" that came with my "SpaceNavigator," but it does absolutely nothing. I plugged it in. I installed the drivers. And then in the trainer, nothing happened, which extra stinks because when the 3D mouse is plugged in, the 2D mouse doesn't work at all.
They're in adjacent USB slots, but I see no reason _neither_ of them should work when they're plugged in!

can you please check if you can see the 3D mouse in the Device Manager? You should find it listed under "Human Interface Devices".
Which type of 2D mouse are you using? Can you please try different USB ports? Ports that are not adjacent? For example one at the rear and one at the front (if it is a desktop machine) or one at the left side and one at the right side (of your notebook)?
