Installation Error - Space Navigator / SolidWorks 2008 SP0.0

Post by C2C_Dave »

OS = WinXP
When installing the software, I get a small dialog box that pops up and says:

"3DConexxion Add-In for SolidWorks installation failed.
Error: 1603
Do you wish to continue?"

I am trying to install v3.5-5 of the software, which I downloaded yesterday.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here are some answers to anticipated questions:

1) Yes, I downloaded the file instead of trying ot install over the net.
2) I extracted the file and ran the executeable from there.
3) I have SolidWorks installed already, in the proper directory. I completely removed my previous version.

Hi C2C_Dave,

The "1603" (general MSI error) is of concern. Were you logged in as an administrator?

Why did you extracted the file? The download is already an executable.

I talked to someone in your support department and that was their instructions. Even though I can open the dll, I have to do it every time I start SolidWorks.

I am logged in as a local administrator on this machine, so I'm curious as to why this is happening.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Okay I actually logged in under the ADMINISTRATOR account and it STILL gave me that error. I have to admit that opening the dll file is pretty frustrating to do manually. There is no option to make it load at startup in SolidWorks. It does not show up....

Hi C2C_Dave,

Error 1603 is generated by the windows installer. To get more information, we must have a look at the log file. Please create and send that file to the EMail-address you will find in your Inbox.

How to generate MSI-logfiles:

1. Open a command-line prompt
2. Change to the folder where 3DxSoftware is saved
3. Execute the following command:

Code: Select all

3DxSoftware_vX-Y-Z /c:"3DxSoftware /a /z'/logpath=c:\temp'"
where 3DxSoftware_vX-Y-Z is the 3DxSoftware redistributable package (for example: 3DxSoftware_v3-5-5)
and c:\temp is the folder where the MSI logs will be created.
If generating MSI log files for the Personal Edition (PE) build, execute the command:

Code: Select all

3DxSoftwarePE_vX-Y-Z /c:"3DxSoftwarePE /a /z'/logpath=c:\temp'"
Please include only the SolidWorks part if possible.
