NX5 + Vista64 = no button mapping

Post by drkieffer »

I've been having issues with the 3Dconnexion driver, vista, and NX5 for months now, relying on an old driver that allowed rotation, but no button function. Today I got brave, and d/l the latest driver, installed, and fired up NX5.0.2.2mp2.

The lcd screen tells me I'm in UGS NX Configuration 2, and it changes when I change from Modeling, to Sketcher, etc., but when I bring up the button mapping tool, and change the mapping, nothing happens.

Also, when I hit one of the 6 lcd buttons, nothing happens, nor does anything happen when I hit the "fit", or "canned" view buttons.

Also, when I go into sketcher, the SpacePilot locks the 3D rotation off. This, along with the menus changing on the display, tell me the SpacePilot and NX5 are talking to each other, at least to some degree.

I've gone back thru the old threads, trying different "solutions", but so far none has worked.

Background:
NX4 was installed on this machine in the past, but is uninstalled now.
All the env variables point to NX5 locations.
I am running the 64bit version of NX5

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Do you see the 3Dconnexion splash-screen when you start NX5? Which 3DxWare plugins do you have installed? (There are 2 plugins available: 32 and 64 bit).

Yes, I see the splash-screen.

I installed the latest driver by just accepting the defaults, so I'm not sure which plugin is installed, but I'm going to say "both". I see files in both the "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" folders, with the file date of 12/7/2007.

FYI, the short cut in the Startup folder is:
"C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxWare64\3dxsrv.exe"

So it is starting the 64bit driver.

Can I uninstall the 32bit drivers? or reinstall as "custom" and only get the 64 bit versions?

And how the heck do you turn ON rotation, while in the sketcher, and have it stay that way?

It is waaay to annoying to have to toggle on "rotation" every time I start working in a sketch.

Is this part of my original problem, or a second problem entirely?

Update for anyone that may have the same issue:

I installed the NX64 plugin manually (custom), and now the button mapping works. Also, you can get out of the 2D pan/zoom mode that the plugin puts you into when entering sketcher, by pressing the "3D" button on the SpacePilot.

Hi Dave,

You asked me in our EMails what to do if you have no "3D"-button:
You can assign the "Rotate"-function to a button on our device.
