I click on '3dxware for any solidworks', and adjust the settings as I want for each button. I ensure 'autosave configurations' is selected, and then I close the window. The controller then works with Solidworks as desired. I don't know what triggers it, but randomly the settings will flip back to the default settings in less than a half hour. If I close solidworks and then restart, usually the controller flips back to the default settings. If I restart my computer, the controller flips back to the default settings everytime.ngomes wrote:Hi heepofajeep,
If you can, please describe in more detail what steps are you taking to change the configuration and how are you verifying that it has not been saved.
I have also tried going to the 3dcontrol menu in solidworks, and exporting the settings, and then importing when things reset, but I still end up with the default settings.
I really do not like the default settings... pleeeaaase help!
Hi heepofajeep,
In SolidWorks, our add-in ("3Dcontrol") has a button mapping panel. There you have access of all the commands available on toolbars. The commands are included in a categorised list.
You can access this panel by pressing on the "Butotn Mapping" button of the "3Dcontrol" toolbar (also part of our solution).

SolidWorks 2006 losing the configuration settings
Hi heepofajeep
Do you work as a normal user, or you are using a login with administrative privileges?
Do you lose your setting in different modi (part, assembly, ...), or only for a specific one?

Hi heepofajeep,
What is the scenario when you use the button mapping panel? Do note that the button configuration changes when you switch to a different document type. In other words, there is a specific button mapping configuration for Assembly, Part and Drawing documents.I know, I have tried that, and I get the same results.
Hi ChrisCAD,
Open the 3Dconnexion Control Panel and check if the saved configuration is loaded when you start the application (it should). Let us know how that works.I am having the same problem with CADworx/AutoCAD 2006.
I can set the tilt/roll to how I like it, save it, and as soon as I restart CAD I can watch all the sliders reset.
Re: Button config not saving
I've had the same problem for quite a while now with my Spaceball 5000. I'll make a button configuration change and then the next time I load SolidWorks, or any program for that matter, the changes I made are gone... This is VERY ANNOYING to fix every day for every program I use the Spaceball with. I've tried updating my driver many times, but it never helps. I'm running Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition. Please HELP!heepofajeep wrote:Hello, I am using solidworks 2006 and windows xp professional, and my space traveler is not saving the button configuration.

Hi,
The button mapping feature is dependent on the loaded document type. See my comment of Feb 21 above.
In other words, if you map your changes in "Assembly" and then restart the application and load a "Part" document, the mappings will be different. The add-in will switch to the correct mapping when the user selecting a different type of document.

I read every post in this thread before I posted for the first time, including yours. It does it with ANY document I'm in, Assembly, Part, Drawing... Not just that... It also fails to save the config in ANY program, not just Solidworks... If you want me to create a huge list for you I can, but that would be pointless, because all of them have the same exact problem. I have had at least one of your motion controllers since you came out with them many years ago, starting with the space mouse, but this is the first time I've had this particular problem. I honestly can't remember for sure if it's always been a problem with this particular model (as I've had it for at least a few years), but then again, I can't really remember a time when it did save configs properly... My guess is that it's been a problem since I purchased it, however, it may have only become a problem when I moved from Win2000 Pro to WinXP Pro. Regardless of when it started, I'd REALLY like to be able to save my configurations.ngomes wrote:Hi,

Hi pwscottiv,
How do you go about programming your devices buttons? It can make a big difference to us if you can describe the scenario where the problem happens (for example, you can explain how you program and button and what you do to check that the mapping is not saved between application sessions).
I think you referring to 3Dxware (driver) configurations. Our add-in for SolidWorks has its own button mapping panel. It also fails to save the config in ANY program, not just Solidworks...

I've been programming them by clicking on the 3Dconexion button in my system tray. I've only been using simple functions that are included in the 3Dconexion dialog box, like "rotations" to lock my view in the same plane. Is that the wrong way?ngomes wrote:Hi pwscottiv,I think you referring to 3Dxware (driver) configurations.
