3DxOffice Plug-In for Microsoft Windows XP Professional x-64

Post by Dustin Neifer »

I purchased a significant quantity of SpacePilot controllers last year.

I would like to deploy about fifteen of them to workstations that are running Microsoft Windows XP Professional x-64 (e.g. the 64-Bit version) for their operating system.

Can the "3DxOffice Plug-in" be configured to allow pan, scroll and zoom operations for "2D" applications such as the Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word, Visio)? That plug-in works as expected for workstations using the 32-Bit version of that OS ...

Dear Mr. Neifer,

The Office Plug-in is legacy software and does not work work on the newer 64 bit Office Applications.

Sincerely,
Bryan G.

BTW: I did search the archives/FAQ and am aware of 3Dconnexion's position and the grass roots efforts to develop work-arounds via the API/SDK or whatever.

Unfortunately, that's not good enough for me. I need a solution that is provided by and supported by the OEM. I'm also not interested in waiting for a solution in "next generation" operating systems, such as the Vista line, which we have no immediate plans to implement.

The management team at 3Dconnexion needs to reconsider their stance on the 3DxOffice supplement (e.g. it's "legacy" status). A 64-Bit compliant version from 3Dconnexion for that supplement would be beneficial to our business. We may have hundreds of workstation platforms converted over to a 64-Bit architecture in the near-term future.

I'm not being critical, just offering some constructive feedback from an existing customer.

I fully agree. I do not understand why is this plug-in in legacy status while it is so helpful. Now we are starting a lot of workplaces with Win XP x64 and there is not possible to speed up work with 3DxOffice because it does not exists for x64.

How can I explain it to our users. Even these are advanced so they want to wring out from these machines a maximum is possible.

This would add more value to the 3dconnection products, make them even more generally used, cant understand why this isnt a market/sales argument for you?

I'd like to add my voice to the group. A proper windows-wide implementation would be huge. I would love to be able to finally take my Navigator from AutoCAD, to NX, and then on into Visio and GIMP(where I spend most of my work day). Specifically the gradated pan and zoom would be heaven sent for work in Visio.
