Spaceball 5000 has trouble finding its driver?

Post by Bazooka Joe »

Hi,

I'm running NX5 in XP Pro SP2 while using a Spaceball 5000 Serial. While I realize the SB 5000 is no longer a supported device (I recognize the old NX2 functions still available), it does manipulate solid CAD objects perfectly with NX5.

But,,, I have some concerns about my installation of the SB 5000.

According to my hardware device manager, something isn't right with the installation. I get the big yellow "?" question mark by the SB 5000 & its driver, and with a right click, I get this error message:

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver. "

I have concerns about the installation error b/c I'm having some video graphic overload problems and are wondering if the SP 5000 is the cause.

I've tried un-install/re-installing a few tiimes with the same results. I have never had an installation with this computer & the SB 5000 which did not have the installation error, but the SB 5000 works fine every time.

So, since it does seem to function properly, do I simply overlook the installation error? Or, could this driver installation error be causing problems which might not be readily apparent?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

One other point of information- I am using the Spaceball 5000 on a Dell M6300 laptop which doesn't have a serial port. However, there is a serial port on the docking station and that is where I have the SB5000 connected.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hello Joe,

Your Spaceball needs to be plugged into a Serial port directly in the Computer. We donot support using any converters from serial to usb.
Windows isnt detecting the device correctly this can cause problems to the device.

Fred,

Thanks for the reply and sorry to take so long to reply.

I have a related question to my original question- My 5000 Serial has been working good so far, and I'm satisfied with it's performance & I'm ok with its somewhat restricted function capability. But, I would like to know what will I gain if I were to switch to a USB 5000 with the latest software instead?

Thanks!

Joe

Spaceball 5000 are no longer being manufactored.
You would have to look at the Space Explorer (USB) or Spacepilot to get the multiple button combinations.
The new drivers for the USB are supported by NX and will recognize the device.
