AutoCAD 2008 Regen issue

Post by clarkrj »

We create fairly large design files in AutoCAD 2008. Is there a way to disable the automatic regen while using Space Navigator? I find the use so choppy. If I touch the device I get a regen, if I start and then stop, I get a regen. I am very new to this, and would like to deploy them to my department, but I am leary of the learning curve with large files.

Hi clarkrj,

You can work in another visual mode instead of 2D Wireframe:
Change to 3D modeling and 3D wireframe-style. Then open our control-panel and disable tilt, spin and roll. This way should avoid regenerating.

For improving performance you can also toggle grid-mode (F7).

Please tell me if this works for you.

The tilt, spin, roll functions are why I like this product. Without them it's just another mouse. I was wondering why I need a regen when I do tilt, spin, or roll. 3DORBIT does not seem to do this and I have large files.

I only see AutoCAD regenerating when I am in 2D mode - and there I do not tilt/spin or rotate. Or am I wrong on this? (Unfortunately I don't actually "use" AutoCAD in the meaning of doing productive work)

So when I want to improve performance for such large files in 2D navigation I would use 3D-mode and disable tilt, spin and rotate. The SpacePilot and SpaceExplorer even have buttons for toggling 2D/3D navigation. Currently I am not aware of another solution.

Anyway this solution (drawing, zooming and paning in 3D wire frame) still working slowly
