How do I keep SpacePilot from jumping to 3DxStudio Perspective while I'm trying to work in any of the standard 3ds Max viewports?

Hi rwelch, I'm not sure if the following is correct, or if it's what is being asked, but I think I know the answer to your question. Someone please correct me if what I'm saying is wrong or off mark.

The plugin for 3ds Max is 3DxStudio. 3DxStudio has a feature/command called Toggle 3D View Lock. It is listed in the 3DxStudio Control Panel as "Lock to 3D View" under "Options", where it can be turned on and off.

When this feature is activated, it allows the user to continue navigating the perspective view with the 3D mouse even when a different viewport is active. This can be useful when editing something in 2D, but checking your results in 3D.

Hi Aaron, thanks for taking the time to reply. I had already tried using the "Lock to 3D View" command. It didn't have any apparent effect on my problem. I've learned a little more since my fist request for help. At the time I was working in OpenGL because I was using a Vue atmosphere. I work in the perspective viewport most of the time. When I use SpacePilot during a seesion (which is all the time), the viewport changes to the "3DxStudio Perspective" view. This seems to be the way that things work and it wasn't an issue. My problem began when not only the name of the viewport changed, but the view changed. It seemed to be moving me to a camera at another location in the scene. This was frustrating and caused me to, occasionally, go back to using a standard mouse and the keyboard.

I stepped away from that project for a while in order to work on another one. I just returned to the same scene. I'm doing some work in Direct 3D and, so far, I'm not having the same problem. Since nobody else seems to have reported this problem, I'm inclined to think that I have done something in my scene to cause this. I don't know. Thanks again for your help.

Hi rwelch, you’re welcome. I've not had the problem you described, but I have also never used my 3D mouse with anything but Direct3D. I appreciate the update and I'm glad that it is working better now under Direct3D. :D

Making an explosion in 3d studio max? I was making a home movie and decided to add few effects. I wanted to add an explosion effect so I figured I would make a snap shot of the scene and work with it in Photoshop and import it into movie maker but I did not like the results I got with Photoshop. The explosion looks very cartoonish and I was looking for something more realistic. I was just wondering if it was possible to make an explosion of an object in 3d studio max on a picture.
