SpacePilot commands not workin in SW2008

Post by behoerner »

All of a sudden my commands are not all working: for instance: line, circle. Oddly enough I can get the trim command or some other commands to work assigned to any button so it probably is not a hardware issue.

I've done a complete uninstall / reinstall including removing the registry files.

This appears to be a button mapping issue. I noticed in the 3D control panel, I have 5 different configurations. If I toggle from one SW configuration to another, it seems to change the configurations to a defalt. I deleted all but one of the SW configs. did not help.

I can map buttons from the tool bar in SW, or by opening the 3D window but the mapping is different in each; one does not reflect the other. Also, in the past, from the 3D tool bar in SW, I've had the option under keyboard, to select hot keys I've asssigned but now they are not there.

Assigning navigation (Iso, zoom all, etc.) items to buttons works fine as does assigning control panel & button mapping to a button. But if I try to assign a command such as line, rectangle or circle to buttons 1, 2 or 3 the commands appear in control panel & button mapping but the commands will not execute. 3DControl is selected in add-ins.

I remember there was a driver issue having to do with the sequence of installation and SolidWorks a couple years ago. But I have reinstalled drivers and still no commands. Am I missing something?

Show Commands in ToolBar for use in SolidWorks 2008

Post by Bryan »

Dear behoerner,

We have found that starting with SolidWorks 2008, that in order for commands, mapped to buttons, to execute, SolidWorks requires that commands to be showing in a toolbar.

Sincerely,
Bryan

Can you please explain this more clearly?

Thanks,

Show Commands in ToolBar for use in SolidWorks 2008

Post by Bryan »

Dear behoerner

I believe in SolidWorks that for each SolidWorks command there is a corresponding graphical icon located in a toolbar. The display of the toolbars can be toggled off and on. In order for a command to be executed from keying a SpacePilot button that has been mapped to to that command, the graphical icon for that commands needs to be showing in its toolbar.

Sincerely,
Bryan G.

I have tried to show all of the commands I want to use, such as showing the sketch toolbar with the commands I want to use, this has had no positive effect, still no reaction from the space pilot.
I have tried to use an older software driver, then use the new SolidWorks addin from the latest driver from your website. Could this be a software regression on 3DS software...getting very frustrated, which means I cannot advise management to invest in new SpacePilot purchases for several others here.

An earlier driver "3DxSoftware_v2-8-2.exe" and only load the 3dconnexion software, then use the current driver download "3DxSoftware_v3-6-11.exe" from your website but only install the SolidWorks addin

Of course I had also tried just the "3DxSoftware_v3-6-11.exe" install for just the 3dconnexion software and just the SolidWorks driver, which was a useless try

So I uninstalled the 3DC software again, including removing all registry items and re-installed the software using 3DxSoftware 3.6.11. now i can get the SP to work, however, and this is a big however, I need to remap the buttons for every new part....what gives? Starting to think about just putting the whole deal in the recycle bin!

Make sure you are saving your configurations.

Post by Bryan »

Dear behoerner,

In the 3Dconnexion Control Panel, you may want to double check under the Options menu to make sure you have 'Automatically Save Configurations' checked on.

I am having the same problem with SW 2009. We recently upgraded from 2007, and now none of my Part level commands are working.

I'm using the latest software (3.6.11), and have tried reinstalling the driver.

Solidworks 2009 SP2.1
SpacePilot
3DxSoftware 3.6.11
