Space Navigator PE not working in Bing Maps

Post by jjtx300 »

My space navigator PE isn't controlling anything in Bing Maps. I just received the device tonight, and it works great in Google earth, but not at all for Bing Maps. I tried it in the latest internet explorer and firefox, but no dice. Am I missing something? Should this work, or was support dropped when Microsoft changed it from Virtual Earth to Bing Maps?

Thanks,
John

Did you download Bing Maps or are you looking at the website page?
Click on 3D and download Bing maps

After it loads it should now recognize the 3d device.

I'm under the impression that Bing Maps is only available on the website, and there is no downloadable program (unlike Google Earth). For a while I thought there was a downloadable program, but I looked and looked and could never find it. Someone wrote a comparison of Bing Maps and Google Earth and they wrote that Bing Maps is only available in the browser. So that pretty much confirmed my suspicion that there is no stand-alone program for Bing Maps.

Regarding your comment to "Click on 3D and download Bing maps," I can click on the 3d option, and it switches to 3d view within the browser:

I did have to download some type of plugin for this to work... maybe the first time I clicked on "3D" it linked me to the plugin... I can't remember. Here is the direct download page for the plugin:

Note: Since I already had the plugin installed, the only way I could get to this page was by the direct link to "Install 3D," which can be found by doing a google search for "bing maps." And I tried to download the file and run it, but it said I already had the 3D plugin installed and then it quit.

You may have to contact them on how to enable the 3D motion inside of there application. or find out what Browser to use i used IE.
When i installed the plugin it worked imediately. I did not have to make any setting changes. Make sure the 3d driver is running first and then after entering Bing Maps click on the 3d icon wait for the website pages to refresh and load in 3d then you should get be able to use your Space Navigator.
