3DS Max 2010 - Center of interest suddenly changes -

Post by Bumper »

SpacePilot Pro

Hello, I am a brand new owner of the Space Pilot Pro and while using it has been like trying to brush my teeth with my left foot, I can see how I may eventually find it indispensable.

However I am experiencing a rather game-stopping issue in 3DS Max 2010.

When working in a sub element mode (edges for instance) it is not uncommon for the "center of interest" of the viewport camera to suddenly change from the active object to somewhere out in space. I find myself having to constantly hit Fit to get the object back.

It seems to happen more when none of the sub elements are selected though not unheard of if only one or two are. When I regain it in the viewport I find it necessary to select a number of edges, verts, etc in order to re-set the camera's center.

This really messes with my workflow. It is unfortunate that my company decided to upgrade to 2010 at the same time I got my SPP. So many new variables it's hard to know where to start.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Best

Hi Bumper,

do you experience this sudden switch with all files or just with a few one? Whn you create a new one and create just a simple cube, is this the same behaviour?

Hi uludwig,

I have experienced with with multiple files on two separate computers.

For instance this morning I have a poly object in an ortho view with sub element (vertices) mode active.

**I just realized that is does NOT occur when the camera is set to "perspective" only when in user/orthographic.**

Once I have no verts selected it seems as though the focus point is now considerably behind (or otherwise shifted) the object so when I either spin or tilt the camera moves(spins?) such that the object goes quickly out of view.

Thank you for your response and excellent product. In all honesty the more I use my SSP the more I see it for the tool it truly is.
