SpaceNavigator - Driver installation failure

Post by Kriptonic »

I received a SpaceNavigator today, my father who works in 3D got one and thought it was great, since I work in 3D too, he took upon the opportunity to get me one.

I use 3D Studio Max as my main application so I downloaded the latest drivers from the website and began following the installation instructions. The application extracted the files to [somewhere] and began asking for any other configuration options. Next > Next > Next > Install.

After about 12 seconds the installer returns the error:

Code: Select all

Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\... ...\Temp\pftB234.tmp\components64\3DxWare\3DxWare64.msi
I am given the option to 'OK' the error followed by a 'Do you wish to continue' YES/NO box. Pressing YES will ask me to point the installer towards the missing file. After placing a copy of 3DxWare64 from disk into the folder it wanted, it then asked for the missing file 3DxCollege which I cannot find.

I just wish to use my 3D Mouse. Can anyone either tell me how to fix the installer issue, or where the files extracted to - Since a search cannot find them.

I am running Windows 7 64 Bit

I had previously ran 3DxWare64 separately from the installer and can confirm that the 3D Mouse works with several test applications and Google Earth.

Thanks, Christopher.

If you have any questions that you think will help, then feel free to ask and I shall get back to you as soon as I can.

After getting impatient and annoyed with the driver installation issues, I used a .exe extractor to get to the files I needed. Now I have installed the drivers and we're working great :) Looking forwards to seeing the full potential of using this device.

Hello Christopher -

I'm pleased you got it working. The installer uses the standard Windows InstallShield to install from the .MSI files. The type of error you ran into can happen if there is a corrupted file in the temporary files folder and can usually be resolved by cleaning out all of the temp files. Your alternate method works as well since it bypasses the spot where InstallShield gets in trouble.

I'm having the same problem.

" 3DxCollage.msi not found "

I've deleted temp files and redownload drivers few times but still same problem.

Yes it is.

Use exe extractor software to retrieve content from Driver setup file.
Those drivers are pretty often corrupted or something like that.
