SpaceMouse Enterprise drift

Post by Comondor »

At very slight inclinations of the central joystick from the initial position, after a while, "sticking" occurs. And if the joystick element itself is released at the moment of "sticking" (without touching anything), the movement on the screen will continue in the opposite direction for a few more seconds. This problem manifests itself in all joystick axes, on different computers, on different systems (Windows 10 64x, Windows 7 32-64x) and on different driver versions (10.6.4, 10.7.1, 10.7.4). Also on all programs when using the joystick.

Hi Comondor,

Have you tried calibrating the device? To calibrate the device, you would need to follow the instructions in our FAQ here https://3dconnexion.com/us/support/faq/ ... -to-drift/
If that still an issue then you might need to update the firmware on your device. To get the firmware information, please contact our Technical Support Team via Email (technical case) here https://3dconnexion.com/us/support-request/ or phone here https://3dconnexion.com/us/support/#

Probably time to invest on a second SME.

Title: SpaceMouse Enterprise – Continuous Spinning and Zooming Fixed (USB Splitter Issue)

Summary of the Problem:
My SpaceMouse Enterprise began showing extreme runaway behavior on Windows 11.
Symptoms included:

Continuous clockwise rotation

Continuous zooming out

Motion starting immediately when 3Dconnexion Viewer opened

No control over any axis

The issue persisted even after full driver uninstall, reinstall, and Windows cleanup

I initially suspected driver problems (10.9.9 and 10.7.4 both tested), Windows 11 HID handling, calibration, or a possible hardware failure.

None of these were the cause.

Root Cause Identified:
The SpaceMouse Enterprise was connected through a passive USB splitter (a 2-into-1 cable shared with my mouse).
The device is extremely sensitive to power stability and USB timing.
Sharing a port produced unstable power and HID packet timing, which caused the Hall sensors to report full-scale axis values continuously.

Verified Fix:
Move the SpaceMouse Enterprise to its own dedicated USB port on the PC.

Do not use:

USB splitters

Passive Y-cables

Low-power hubs

Front-panel ports with inconsistent power

After plugging the SpaceMouse directly into a rear motherboard USB port, the spinning and zooming stopped completely and the device returned to normal behavior.

Additional Notes:

The CadMouse and a USB flash drive work fine on the splitter; only the SpaceMouse requires an isolated port.

The issue is not caused by Windows 11 or by 3DxWare version.

Full driver cleanup was useful but not the solution.

The SpaceMouse Enterprise demands stable 5V power and uninterrupted HID bandwidth; splitters cannot provide this.

Conclusion:
If your SpaceMouse Enterprise shows uncontrollable spinning or zooming, check your USB connection. Ensure the device is plugged directly into a dedicated USB port, not a shared splitter or passive hub.
