Non-responsive device

Post by drkieffer »

We have a Space Pilot, that was functioning, but now just sits blank. We've tried reinstalling drivers, unplugging, changing usb ports, etc. In another thread, I read about pressing the "menu" and "fit" buttons, while plugging it in, I assume this is a device reboot of some sort.

Is there some type of reboot we can do to this Space Pilot device, to reset it?

Thanks,
Dave

Hello Dave -

Yes, for the SpacePilot you can restart using Button #1 and Button #2.

Unplug the SpacePilot
Hold down Button #1 and Button #2 on the SpacePilot
While holding the buttons plug in the device.
Wait about 15 seconds then release the 2 buttons
now start the driver.
[Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Driver, Start Driver]

If this does not work initially, try rebooting the system then do the 2–button restart again – sometimes the second try will reset the device.

When this happens it means that the driver for some reason has not completed its shutdown correctly. The device also will not be recognized by other PCs until the problem is cleared by restarting in this way.

Same problem

I am unable to get the driver to start.

The space pilot lights up but the control panel and 3d software cannot see the device.

I tried the reboot and restart and reinstalled the latest software.

I am using windows xp 32bit with service pack 3.

It works on my mac with limited functions.
I then connected my space navigator and the pc would not see that either.

Hello wow001 -

You can do a clean install 3Dconnexion software.

Is there security software that may be blocking the 3Dconnexion executable [3dxsrv.exe]? Is it a network or personal PC?

The 3Dconnexion software needs to be done from a profile with full administrator permissions for the local PC - on a networked PC often an IT tech is needed. Also, make sure you are using a USB port on the PC rather than a hub, adapter or extension.

I tried the clean install but it did not work.

So I turned off my Bitdefender 2012, i should of tried this first.

The 3d driver then loaded and i got the 3d icon in the bottom right corner,
the space pilot then worked.

Turning different parts of the Bitdefender on and off i found is was the "Active virus control"

Under Settings/antivirus/Active virus control
turned off and rebooted and the space pilot loaded and worked.

I will get in touch with bitdefender and find out if this leaves me exposed have the Active virus control turned off.

Thanks for your help Barbara.

Ask them how to setup an exception rule in Bitdefender.
I believe its blocking the usb port due to driver having the ability to check website for driver update.

Bitdefender have given me the instructions for setting an exception rule.

Please let me know the file or files and they locations that I need to exclude.

Hello wow001 -

The file that needs to be added to the exclusions to allow the driver to run is the executable file that the 3Dconnexion 'Start Driver' shortcut points to.

The file is 3dxsrv.exe and the location is

C:|Program Files|3Dconnexion|3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware|3DxWare|3dxsrv.exe
[On a 64-bit PC the folder is 3DxWare64]
