Serial port configuration for windows 7

Hi,

There it is a recommended configuration for the Serial port on windows 7?

We are using the spaceball 5000 serial model with the driver 2.8.2 on windows 7, they work well but some users have problems when using the spaceball, like models freezes or slow movement of the models.

This is the current configuration of the serial port:

bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None.

The driver will configure the serial port for you. It's been a long time since we supported serial devices. They stopped working well in Vista--especially 64-bit Vista where they were very temperamental.

I see that you mentioned that you no longer support serial devices, unfortunately I am in the same position, I am still using Windows Vista, it has been working well for me to this point but I am unable to get Spaceball 5000 moving quickly, it keeps freezing up and I pretty much have to reboot to start again.

I guess the best thing for me to do is bite the bullet and upgrade Windows, if you have an opinion would Mac be a better option for me?

What do you mean by "moving quickly"? If it is a scaling issue, that is probably just a profile issue. We found that serial devices were very problematic starting at Vista (and particularly unreliable on 64-bit systems).

I don't think we ever supported serial devices on the Mac.
