3dsmax 2013 won't recognize Space Pilot Pro

Post by Paradice »

So installed all drivers on my Windows x64 for the Space Pilot Pro (3DxSoftware64SPP_v3-15-6_r1281) and try to use it with 3dsmax 2013. The Suite simply doesn't recognize the device meaning when i try to use it nothing happens. Now I've already tried to Start the drivers manually before and after starting 3dsmax but it wont help. On the other hand i don't have any problems running 3dsmax 2012 along with the Device. It is responding to it automatically.
I would really appreciate some help since i want to get to work in 3dsmax 2013 :D

The Device itself works with the Training and the Puzzle

Hello Paradice -

The 3DsMax 2013 add-in is included in the 3Dconnexion driver you are using. [ Rel 3.15.6]

You can close 3DsMax 2013 then use the Repair function in the Windows 7 programs and Features to install the add-in. [Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features - 3Dconnexion - Change - Repair]

When 3DsMax 2013 opens with the add-in installed you will see the 3DMouseNews window showing the pop-up menu with the 3DsMax navigation options.

I tried your suggestion and it would work either yet I just fixed the issue through simply reinstalling the drivers properly (http://www.3dconnexion.com/index.php?id ... red=faq/28) and now it works just fine.
But thank you anyways :)

I'm having the exact same problem. It works with all of the little demo programs, but doesn't work in Max 2012 OR 2013. I've uninstalled everything, including the registry edits and reinstalled and still nothing. I think it stopped working after I updated to 3DxSoftware64_v3-16-1_r1342 but I'm not certain when exactly it quit.

Dear GMoneyK1200S ,

When you reinstalled, did you have all your applications closed?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Hi GMoneyK1200S,

Are you running Max as admin? If you do, Windows prevents the 3D mouse driver from setting up a connection.

Yes, I had everything closed when I did the reinstall, and no, I'm not running as an administrator. I just got a SpaceMouse Pro last night and it's doing the same thing, so it's definitely not hardware.

The strange thing is that the little blue cross that controller adds to Max shows up in the perspective viewport, so it seems it knows it's there, but nothing works.

Hello... I have followed this post through and actioned all the above but I am still stuck!

I had my space navigator working fine in Max 2012 until a problem with a file corrupted Max and I had to reinstall! I could not get my space navigator working again even after reinstalling Max a few times and the 3dConnexion drivers! However I have now just installed Max 2013 as a little down time and thought maybe with afresh Max and a new install of the drivers for my space navigator all would work. Sadly not and after a few hours trying a few different things and following all the advice above I still have no space pilot working but like GMoneyK1200S above states I have the little blue cross hairs in Max and the space navigator working fine with its own tutorials and puzzle game... Please am I missing some secret setting somewhere as it now feels like someone has cut off my left hand when modelling in Max!!! Any ideas would be greatly received...

Alternate manual Install Steps :

If the Modify /Repair function does not add the 3DsMax plug-in, there are manual steps you can use:

On a 32-bit PC:

Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio32-->win32 -->3DsMax2012 to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

Copy "3DxStudio.ms" from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio32 to the scriptsstartup sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

On a 64-bit PC:

Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio64-->x64 -->3DsMax2012 to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

Copy "3DxStudio.ms" from C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxStudio64 to the scriptsstartup sub-directory of 3Ds Max.

The manual has a screenshot of the 3DsMax Pop-Up Menu. [Start, Programs,3Dconnexion,Documentation - Manuals
- English Manual - Supported Applications - Autodesk 3ds Max]

===========================================================================

[Note: 3dsMax versions 9 through 2012 all use 3dxstd.dlu but the files are different and have a different file size
based on the year and version]

3DsMax9 : 2.06 MB
3DsMax2008 : 2.06 MB
3DsMax2009 : 2.07 MB
3DsMax2010 : 2.18 MB
3DsMax2011 : 2.18 MB
3DsMax2012 : 2.07 MB
3DsMax2013 : 2.14 MB

Hi Fred

Thanks for coming back to me and for your time. I have followed the steps you have listed but both files already exist in the two locations included?

Like I say I have followed the steps to try and clear up things in the registry as well. Not sure if its worth mentioning though; with regard the steps to clear the registry I note the following...

Step 1. completed
Step 2. completed
Step 3. I don't have a 'documents and settings' folder on C: so cannot follow this step (could this be the route of my problem or wouldn't the install build this file if needed?)
Step 4. completed
Step 5. completed
Step 6. these .dll files seem to be removed with step 2 above. There when the software is installed and gone once step 2 is completed.
Step 7. completed
Step 8. completed
Step 9. completed

Anything else you can think of?

Thanks again

The above is referning to the Saved button profiles.
1.WinXp
C: --> Documents and Settings --> [Username] --> Application Data --> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

Vista :
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData --> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

Windows 7 :

C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData -->Roaming---> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

I would prefer you follow the manual install and replace the files according to the version of MAX you have installed.
If your using Max 2013 then copy the files and replace what is there.

Hi Fred

Thanks for the reply and I have now copied the two files as requested but no joy! I also should say I am running Windows 7 64bit.

Sorry I am rubbish at all things systems stuff with reference to my computer... (give me an image, animation etc to create I'm a whizz!!) so I am not sure what you mean by...

Windows 7 :

C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData -->Roaming---> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

On C: I have Users --> [Username] but nothing past this is there... Is this my problem?

Thanks
