Custom functions keep being forgotten

Hi guys,

I had this problem with the space pilot pro that i had at a previous employer but forgot about it but I've now just purchased a space mouse pro and the issue is still there. I map custom functions to the various buttons on the space mouse pro, save the profile and it works for a while. But inevitably, the software will wipe all custom functions AND remove functions entirely from most of the buttons. Even more infuriating is the fact that although you can save the custom functions setup, there's no way to load that setup! I'm not sure what the point of saving them is in the first place.

I work with 3ds max and always have multiple instances open at once, though I initially configured the 3d mouse with just one version of max open. This is getting really annoying now. Every time i encounter this issue, i have to go and reassign custom functions and define my own custom functions too as it conveniently forgets those too.

Is there any solution to this issue? I'm thinking of just downgrading to the basic 3d space navigator as all the keys are basically useless unless you can save custom functions.

What is important with button mapping for 3DsMax is to be sure you are using the right editor. To have your 3DsMax button mapping saved to your profile, the buttons need to be mapped from the editor inside 3DsMax - not from 3Dconnexion Properties.

With a 3DsMax document open, press the 'Menu' button on the SpaceMouse Pro and choose 'Customize buttons' from the pop-up menu.

This opens the editor inside 3DsMax. In addition to saving your button mapping to your 3DsMax profile, this editor has the 3DsMax commands that wll be more useful than the more general commands in 3Dconnexion Properties.

For 3DsMax, the custom functions are saved in 3Dconnexion Properties then added to the 3DxWare category in the editor inside 3Dsmax when you re-start the application.

When saving a custom function, make sure a 3DsMax profile name is active [3DsMax - loginname will be shown at the top of the window] and give your custom function a name you will be able to recognize in a list of command names in the 3DxWare category. 3Dsmax reads the Custom Functions list and adds them to the 3DxWare command category when the application starts up.

If the mapping for your 'Menu' button has been changed so that it no longer opens the pop-up menu, you will need to first correct that in 3Dconnexion Properties - Button Configuration. Choose 'Pop-up' for the Menu button or use Options - Restore all defaults.
